"*"*"*" My Thoughts On The Film "*"*"*"

I seen the advert for this and heard a lot about how "good" it is supposed to be. That made me really want to see it and I was really looking forward to it. But, I have to say I was extremely disappointed with this film. I was expecting a lot from it "especially" since I have seen it referred to as the scariest film of the year. To be honest it did not scare me, not even one bit and that is saying something because I am easily frightened! I have seen films with less hype and they were ten times better than this one is. The reason I did not like it was because it was just so unconvincing.

I mean aren't films supposed to be convincing? I thought they were especially horror films because they really need to grab the audiences attention and keep it. The moments that make you jump whilst watching a horror film. Do so, because you have got so caught up in watching it. This film in my opinion just had no ability to do that and I found the whole idea of it to be rather well....crap! For those people who watch Most Haunted and like it you may like this because there is a slight comparison that can be made between them both. However that comparison is a very slight one. Please do not take the "may" as a encouragement from me to see it though. Because, I do not want the blame if you think it is as awful as I did lol!

It reminds me of Most Haunted in the way that it is filmed. I found the acting from both of the lead roles to be incredibly bad as well. I do not even feel that I am exaggerating if I say it is the worst acting that I have seen yet. I am very surprised because ordinarily, I love things like this but this one just did not leave me in any way glad that I had watched it. In fact it had the complete opposite effect and I wished I had not even bothered watching it. I kept hoping that maybe if I persevered with it, that it would improve in some way but it never did. In fact it seemed to not only "not improve" but instead it got worse. If that is even possible considering how bad it already was from the beginning. I think that I am the sort of person who needs to watch a high budget film with lots of special effects to be afraid and this has made that very apparent to me.

Before, I have thought that the huge amounts of money spent on making some films was unnecessary and a waste. But after seeing this catastrophe, oh no! I certainly don't think that anymore. If it would mean that there is never another film as badly made as this one is. Then I would entirely encourage it! I do not like that they are filming, every move and every minute. It is so very fake and the lead roles were not interesting enough to hold my interest in it. Plus, that ending, argh! There is no words for how awful that was and it was as entirely unconvincing as the rest of it. I can not tell you how it ends because that would be a spoiler lol! But I can say that in my opinion, it is an entirely daft and beyond awful ending. I have heard lots of mixed opinions on this film.

Some say it was terrifying, some say its boring (I agree with that) and others think it is the best film they have ever seen. I think it is terrible! Personally I do not recommend this but everyone is different and if this sounds like your type of film maybe you should give it a go. This sounded like "my type" of film as well though and I was less than impressed with it. I think because me and most of the members in my family have had paranormal things happen to us at one time or another (As have lots of other people who I know and don't know.) I find it hard to believe this and its Most Haunted style take on things.

For instance the whole idea of searching for answers through a spirit is laughable, in the way that they did it. Now, I believe in mediums and psychics but this was just ridiculous! For example this is two questions that were asked. What is your quest? What is your favorite colour? That is funny but irrelevant in my opinion. If I were a spirit of some sort and was asked that I might laugh but I would certainly not answer it and it is not even just a spirit that they are dealing with. I will not mention what it is nor will I mention its intentions, whether they are good or bad. If you do decide to watch it you will find that out.

Considering the "scariest film" label that it had been given. I expected that I would be the most afraid I had ever been watching a film, while watching it. But I was far from it! In my opinion it is closer to a horror spoof than a horror film. I think in some "rare occasions" if a horror film does not have lots of special effects, that it can still be scary. But only If it is put across properly! For instance, I am watching TV (Not overly paying attention to it though) and writing this at the same time. An advert for The Descent 2 just came on. That made me jump and it was only on for a few seconds.

Yet, I watched the whole of Paranormal Activity and did not jump once and my dad lol! He fell asleep, both my mum and him don't have great opinions of it either. I think if you find ghosts in films frightening this could be scary to you and maybe that is why it was so frightening to those who found it scary. For me this film is just missing in that something special and that eeriness that makes a horror film really good.

I was trying to fight the urge to type not a lot, except for a big waste of your time here but the need to write it was too overpowering lol! Paranormal activity is "one of the scariest movies of all time." Those are words you will see shown on the video on the official Paranormal Activity website. I have no idea how the people in that cinema are so frightened. Sigh! Some are even clinging to each other. How it managed to scare them so much, I will never know. I think that they are either really well paid actors and actresses or that they are even more easily frightened than I am. (I did not think that was possible lol!) How they came to the conclusion that it is "one of the scariest films of all time" is utterly baffling. I think this is proof of what a lot of hype can do and that it can brainwash people in a sense. If you get caught up in all of that, it may succeed in frightening you but if you can see past it and instead notice how ingenuine and fake the two lead roles reactions are to the things that happen (particularly Katie's.) Then you will see what me, my mum and dad seen when watching this and that is that its a over rated and awful film.

This film was not based on a true story. Well, judging by what I have read it wasn't. I also read that the writer and director Oren Peli was inspired for the Movie by his experience, when moving to a house in San Diego. Plus by all all of the unexplained noises and things that he heard and seen when he was in it. I find the facts more interesting than the film actually was. He also filmed it in his own house (not to the same extent though) which actually was haunted! But then ..... I also read things saying that it was not haunted and basically saying that, was a load of crap lol! So, with this the facts and non-facts are rather hard to establish.

In my opinion this is a very weak film and I would not watch it again. It just does not have that same spark that some films do. It looks like something that should be on youtube. I was open minded when I began watching it and I wanted it to be as good as it was said to be but for me it just wasn't. I believe that it "could" have been a lot better and my opinion of it could have been a bit more in favour of it. If it was not for that terrible ending. Still, if this was the first film ever made. I would never watch another one again! I watched the new Twilight film yesterday and It kept me intrigued to see what would happen from the very beginning and right up until the end. Disappointingly this just could not manage to do that. I can not give it more than one star and would give it less if that were possible.

I just read that this beat Saw 6 in terms of its ability to frighten audiences. I found the Saw films a lot more frightening than this was. I guess me, my mum and dad were just some of the few who were not blown away or even impressed by this. I think I will just stick to the "room mate alien prank goes bad" video on youtube. Even that frightened me more when the alien poked its head out from behind the door lol! I think that considering this was not based on a true story. The director had an opportunity to do so much more with it but he just did not. At the end of the day there is lots of varying opinions on this and mine is that it is one to avoid!
