>>>> Synopsis Having institutionalised himself with suicidal depression, Hunter ‘Patch’ Adams (Robin Williams) discover his real calling in life when his ability to make the other patients laugh helps lift them from their depressed state. Having left the institution and enrolled at a medical institution in the hope of becoming a doctor, he soon realises that the staid, impersonal approach of his tutors is not what he wants. Trying the patience of his superiors as he brings his own brand of anarchic humour to the hospital wards, it looks likely that he will never be allowed to qualify as a doctor and fulfil his ... Watching the new Kevin Kostner movie Dragonfly reminded me of this one by the same directed Tom Shadyac. Shadyac directed Ace Ventura back in the time when Jim Carey was funny but since then has gone on to do little which is particularly noteworthy - much which will be hanging around the bargain buckets. When he directs comedy it appears he does so well, but his forays into more serious film-making are at best clumsy and at worse insulting. Dragonfly marks the pinnacle of his intelligence insulting run of movies, whilst this one merely falls into the category of 'manipulative melodrama'. Some people of course like this kind of thing, and its release was ... Read the complete review

This is really a feel good movie. Fantastic if you are feeling a little bit down. To be honest, even though the critics slated this film, I still really enjoyed it. The plot is very simple. Basically its about a real guy who after admiting himself to a mental hospital, decided that he wants to help people. He wants to make a difference to other people's lives, to touch people, so he decides (dispite being in his late 20's) to go to medical school to become a doctor. Now the film is set in the 60's where Dr's were very straight laced and authoritairan (well they havnt changed that much really have they). Patch decides that he want to treat patients as people, ... Robin Williams, more commonly known for his humorous movies (such as Mrs Doubtfire or Good Morning Vietnam) stars in a wonderful movie, that although it is a comedy, touches many millions of people around the world. Based on a true story this movie is sentimental and sad. The movie is about real life and as such makes you realize just how lucky you are. The Plot --- ---- Patch Adams is one of life’s drifters. Although he is essentially a genius, his lack of direction and depressions has left him in a mental institution as he drifts through life. After being released he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that will lead to fulfillment. He ... Read the complete review

Movies and television as a whole, seems to be veering towards a depressive void, rather than entertaining. Maybe this is a personal view rather than general consensus, but all you need to do is look at the ratings for shows like Eastenders and you may agree I have a slight argument here. Patch Adams sums up the entire state of the Hierarchy of the old school tie attitude, and how god like syndrome can easily creep into your life. For those who have never seen the film, here is a brief insight. Hunter “Patch” Adams is a true story based on his own life. Patch, as he prefers to be called, submits himself to a mental ...
