Advantages: moving, powerful, heart warming
Disadvantages: Cant remember the theme tune!
I wasn’t looking forward to even chancing this one. It’s a War film, it’s American, it has been critically slated- you name it- these kind of films are NOT normally my cup of tea! WRONG! I found it to be an extremely moving, emotional, powerful, heart warming (and stopping) movie. It’s a long one too (almost three hours), but it really is a flawless piece of gripping entertainment. You truly watch dumb stuck by the grotesque realism and nature of the scenes that depict the reality of what has to all intents and purposes, already happened. This is a bit of a 'gentleman's titanic', but the ladies will love it to. By all accounts I honestly could find no flaws in this presentation. Shame the musical theme(s) to it are not that well whistled, because this movie must surely go down in history as a classic. It’s romantic, and warming yet at the same time brutal and paradoxical. The intense friendship between two pilots is portrayed together with their love for the same girl interwoven with the struggle to survive in 1941. You can almost feel yourself going back in time to the reality itself. Thankfully, it doesn't seem too American since the British involvement is well situated in the screenplay as well. A shocking reminder, as well about the past reality of war leaves you to feel a true sense of 'freedom' as you leave the theatre. A must see, and on the big screen as well, since it has to be loud!
