      Loveable characters

Peppa Pig one of my son's favourite characters nowadays. They always give up everything when they hear the intro of Peppa Pig and run in front of the TV. I think all of you knows that Peppa is a cheeky little piggy who has loads of friends and they have different adventures and discoveries every day. She lives with her little brother, George and their parents: Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig. Peppa Pig was created by Mark Baker and Neville Astley. For more information about Peppa Pig please visit www.peppapig.com

Luckily there are loads of films available so buying a DVD from time to time is a great treat for my kids. Peppa's Christmas was a stocking filler last Xmas. We saw this DVD at least a hundred times...

The Peppa's Christmas DVD contains 11 episodes, all of them very nice and loveable. I haven't measured the time but I think the episodes last for around 5 minutes.

      1. Peppa's Christmas
      ----------------------------
Peppa and her friends post letters for Father Christmas. Luckily all of them tell Peppa what they asked for... Peppa and her family go out for a Christmas tree. Daddy pig chooses the biggest tree and carries it home on foot as it is so big. They decorate the tree together and Peppa sings some Christmas songs. Father Christmas comes down the chimney as he always does but this time he looses his list. Luckily Peppa knows everybody's wishes...

      2. Pirate Island
      ---------------------
Granny pig and Grandpa Pig sails out with Peppa and all her friends to the Pirate Island where they try to find treasure with metal detector. Grandpa Pig founds something, the kids dig, they find a coin, then a shopping trolley. While the kids build a sand castle with Granny Pig, Grandpa Pig falls asleep on the boat. The boat is drifting away...

      3. Cuckoo Clock
      -----------------------
Peppa and George get up early and go to wake up Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig. They got up early because they don't know how early it is. Their clock has to be repaired. Daddy Pig repairs the clock and shows Peppa what cuckoo does. George misses cuckoo twice but manages to see it for the third time.

      4. Pretend Friend
      ------------------------
Susie Sheep comes to Peppa to play and she has a pretend friend, Leo lion. The girls have fruit cake, Leo wants chocolate cake... The girls play dressing up game. Leo dresses up as King Leo lion. Daddy Pig pretends he can see Leo. When their friends arrive they go out jumping in muddy puddles.

      5. The Long Grass
      -------------------------
Peppa and George love playing in the long grass. When they try to play with the spotty ball they realise that it is impossible in the long grass. Daddy Pig wants to do nothing but Mummy Pig asks him to cut the grass. The old lawn mower falls into pieces so they ask Grandpa Pig to come over and cut the grass...

      6. The Dentist
      ---------------------
Peppa and George go to the dentist for a check up. Their teeth are clean and healthy. Doctor Elephant realises that Mr Dinosaur's teeth aren't clean enough so he cleans them with water jet and polisher. George loves his toy even more as Mr. Dinosaur has shiny teeth too.

      7. Zoe Zebra
      ------------------
Peppa and George receive a birthday party invitation from Zoe Zebra. Mammy Pig helps Peppa to answer Zoe's letter, they accept the invitation. When Peppa takes the letter to the post box she meets all her friends. Zoe and Mr Zebra, the postman arrive to the post box. Peppa and George join them on their way to deliver the letters...

      8. Nature Trail
      --------------------
Peppa and her family are out for a picnic. They discover some footprints and follow them. They discover the birds on the top of the tree. The binoculars help them to see them very well. They are about to follow their own footprints to go back to the car but the rain washes their footprints away...

      9. Pen Pal
      ---------------
Peppa starts to correspond with Delphine Donkey, a French donkey girl. They talk on the phone and Delphine, her little brother, Didier and their parents visit Peppa and her family. Peppa learns a couple French sentences.

      10. School Bus Trip
      ---------------------------
Peppa and her school mates go out on a school trip by bus. They go to the mountains where they discover the echo. They have a lovely time in the mountains and they sing the Bing-Bong song in the bus...

      11. Granny and Grandpa's attic
      -------------------------------------------
Granny Pig and Grandpa Pig are in the attic when Peppa and George arrive. They try to clean the attic but they insist to all their old stuff so can't decide what to throw out. They discover an old record player and listen to some old songs, dance and sing.

      Educational value
      -------------------------
I think these loveable stories help the kids prepare to the school. Peppa and her friends discover new things every day and everything is explained well so that the kids understand it. My sons love the counting parts and the songs. Even though they saw the DVD for a hundred times they still love it and my elder one picked up loads of words and asks me questions about the episodes.
The situations in the episodes are everyday situations so the kids can learn how to behave, what to do.

      My opinion
      ----------------
I think this DVD was wonderful stocking filler. Both of my kids love it and the 11 episodes take around an hour to watch. You haven't seen so good boys as mine while watching the films.

They really love them and I found them laughing at cheeky comments of Peppa, so they follow the story not just watch the pictures. Although there are loads of loveable characters created for kids Peppa and her friends keep my kids entertained and they are hooked on the TV while these episodes are played.

I like that there aren't violent spots in the film and the vocabulary of the episodes is really useful for the kids. My younger one is 2 years old and understands already some of the episodes. My elder one is almost 4 and he pays more attention to the details, he asks me loads of questions after the film.

The DVD is available on Amazon for 3.93 pounds and free P&P. I think this is great value for it. You can find some similar Peppa Pig DVDs in the Tesco for 4-6 pounds. The DVD doesn't contain any extras.

Worth The Money But Only Just About!

This is the first Xmas my little sister has been excited about it so we've brought her some special Xmas DVDs to watch. She loves Peppa Pig so I got her this Peppa's Christmas DVD, it was only £3.98 in Asda and has got a longer than average special Xmas episode plus 10 more Peppa Pig episodes.

I don't mind paying that but I was a bit peed off that there is only one Xmas episode and the rest of them are the normal 5 minute episodes that we've seen on tv a hundred times! I would have thought they could make a few extra special festive episodes to fill a DVD.

The first part of the DVD is Peppa and George singing We Wish You A Merry Christmas with a Xmas tree in the background and that's a nice touch, it made my sister laugh because the playgroup she goes to has just put their tree up too.

The DVD is 61 mins long and contains the following episodes:

Peppa's Christmas. This is the special episode and is very cute, it's a story of Santa visiting Peppa's house on Xmas Eve and losing the list of all her friends presents. Peppa remembers who wanted what present and tells Santa where to deliver them all.

        Pirate Island
Cuckoo Clock (The best Peppa Pig episode EVER!)
        Pretend Friend
        The Long Grass
        The Dentist
        Zoe Zebra
        Nature Trail
        Pen Pal
        School Bus Trip
        Granny And Grandpa's Attic

All of those episodes are shown regular on Nick Jnr so if it wasn't for the Peppa's Christmas episode then I don't think I'd have brought the DVD in the first place. All the Peppa DVD's are like that though and they will quite often have one longer episode and then a few that are always on tv.

It's still worth the money though because my sister loves it and keeps asking to watch the Xmas episode again because she's getting proper excited about Xmas now. She's got quite a selection of Xmas DVDs now because we've sorted her some of my other sister's old ones out, but she likes this one the most because of it featuring her fave character.

A Christmas DVD for any time of year!

One of my 20 month old granddaughter's favourite DVDs at the moment is Peppa's Christmas which is a short DVD compared to her mammoth 3 hour In The Night Garden viewing habits, this one being just 65 minutes from start to finish which is much kinder to the adult viewers who are forced to watch along!

Although it is marketed as a Christmas DVD, there is in fact just one slightly longer than average episode which revolves around Christmas and this is a lovely little tale of Peppa helping Father Christmas when he loses all her friends' Christmas present lists. Peppa helps to jog his memory about what each of her friends would like and everything works out beautifully in the end. I love this episode as it shows Santa all lovely and cuddly which is how he should be in a DVD for such young children, it also shows Peppa and her baby brother George helping Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig to decorate the Christmas tree which is a lovely family scene.

This Christmas episode is longer than average at 10 minutes long, while the other episodes on this DVD are short 5 minute stories which are the perfect length for a boisterous 20 month old to sit through.

The other 11 episodes are typical Peppa Pig stories featuring Peppa, George and their friends. All have a feel good sense about them, which is true of all the episodes my granddaughter watches on Nick Jnr. I've seen the majority of these episodes on TV when my granddaughter has visited so you're not getting anything extra on this DVD, apart from the special Christmas episode which is a nice bonus. The attraction of this DVD for me is that I have all these lovely episodes in one place for my granddaughter without her having to wait until certain times when it's shown on one of the channels, I keep her DVD's on a low shelf so she can reach up and show me which one she wants to watch and just lately it's Peppa's Christmas every time.

The episodes all show the perfect life Peppa and her family lead, there are always things to learn and everyone is kind and thoughtful to one another. The family have simple pleasures such as baking fairy cakes and, more importantly, jumping in muddy puddles which is the kind of idyllic lifestyle we want to show our children at that tender age.

My granddaughter's favourite episode on this DVD is the Cuckoo Clock one which shows Daddy Pig winding up the clock. Every time the funny little bird comes out she giggles and points to my own cuckoo clock on the wall above the tele. I find this episode quite amusing too, but then I'm unhealthily addicted to Peppa myself and I'm certainly not within the age range this DVD is made for! Granny and Grandpa's Attic is also a nice one where Peppa and George help the older Pigs to sort out their attic, the problem is everything is such fun to play with that they end up not getting rid of anything at all!

This is a lovely DVD for any toddler or young child, Peppa is such a cheeky character that this even appeals to my nine year old granddaughter and although she takes the mickey out of it I often see her sitting enthralled by the basic little stories told within each episode. I paid less than £5 for it before Christmas and it's proved to be money well spent, if you shop around you'll probably find it even cheaper now Christmas is well and truly over but I'd watch Peppa talking to Father Christmas any time of year!

            Disadvantages

If the kids love peppa and george they will enjoy the festive episode

Peppa pig is a brilliant cartoon for young children (and their mums!) and centres around a little pig called...you guessed it Peppa. It's all about her and her family unit; consisting of mummy pig, daddy pig and my personal favourite - her little brother George; who's answer for everything is 'dinosaur..ggrrr'.

This is the second Peppa pig dvd I have bought for my children aged 3 and 4 years (who are both boys and love George) and they were very excited to see it was a Christmas one.

Apart from the Christmas episode on here there are other episodes on this dvd -
            Pirate Island,
            Cukoo Clock,
            Pretend Friend,
            The long Grass,
            The Dentist,
            Zoe Zebra,
            Nature Trail,
            Pen Pal,
            School Bus Trip
            and Granny and Grandpa's Attic.

The dvd running time is 61 minutes with 'Peppa's Christmas' being the only extended episode however. It starts off with Peppa and George excitedly going to the post box to post their letters to father Christmas where all their friends are about to post theirs too, before going home to decorate the Christmas tree and waking up and meeting santa! Poor santa loses his present list and peppa comes to the rescue by remembering what her friends asked for, so santa manages to deliver presents to her friends and christmas is saved hooray! This is a good dvd and it's commentry is in an almost sarcastic tone and genuinely funny for children and adults alike and I admit to watching it with my boys and finding it extremely entertaining throughout.

            Recommended for fans of Peppa.

Granpa and granny pig take all the children to Pirate Island on Granpa`s boat , they dig for treasure and while Granny pig is helping to build sandcastles Grandpa pig falls asleep in the boat and the boat drifts away leaving Granny pig and the children stranded on Pirate Island.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              Excellent pre-school animation

Peppa's Christmas is part of my daughter's ever growing Peppa Pig collection.

Peppa is a inquisitive little piggy who lives with Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and her adorable little brother George. Currently airing an episode every day on Milkshake on Five (I believe it also airs on Nick Jr.), Peppa Pig quickly endeared herself to my daughter, with the bright simple animation, cute voices, interesting sounds and catchy but simple theme tune.

This series is excellent for younger babies in my experience as it is simple and colourful enough to hold their attention. My daughter is nine months old now and loves it, it ranks in her top three! She has been watching it for several months.

I love it because it isn't too grating as pre school programmes go, in fact sometimes I realise I'm watching when baby has gone to sleep (it's a sad life eh!). I personally especially like George who manages to summon a huge degree of cuteness for a cartoon pig!

This DVD contains one ten minute special Christmas episode and eleven five minute episodes:

              1. Peppa's Christmas
Peppa and George help Mummy and Daddy decorate the tree, and Peppa helps Father Christmas when he loses his list by telling him what presents all her friends asked for.
              2. Pirate Island
Grandpa takes the children for a trip to Pirate Island on his boat.
              3. Cuckoo Clock
Peppa and George have fun with the old cuckoo clock
              4. Pretend Friend
Peppa's friend Susie comes to play, bringing her pretend friend Leo Lion with her.
              5. The Long Grass
Peppa and George lose their spotty ball in the long grass, Grandpa Pig has to bring Betsy, his ride on mower, to help.
              6. The Dentist
Peppa, George and Mr Dinosaur visit the dentist
              7. Zoe Zebra
Peppa and George get an invite to Zoe Zebra's party
              8. Nature Trail
Mummy, Daddy Peppa and George get lost on a nature trail.. and they've forgotten their picnic!
              9. Pen Pal
Peppa gets a new pen pal, Delphine Donkey from France.
              10. School Bus Trip
Peppa and her friends go on a bus trip to the mountains where they learn about echoes.
              11. Granny and Grandpa's attic
Granny and Grandpa are clearing out their attic with Peppa and George, trouble is, they don't want to throw anything away!

The length of the episodes is also a help in holding the child's attention.

I really liked the dentist episode as it will help young children to understand what happens when you visit the dentist, and hopefully eliminate the fear!

              Other dvds available include:

              Bubbles
Flying a Kite and other stories

The Balloon Ride and other stories

I paid £4.99 for this dvd in woolworths a little while ago, which is what most of the dvds will set you back (apart from new releases). Stocked in most supermarkets, woolworths, amazon etc.

There is a huge selection of other Peppa Pig merchandise available, visit www.peppapig.com.
