Advantages: Absolutely hilarious, Aimed at everyone
Disadvantages: Dodgy starting scene in taxi, No extras
Known to many as the star of the Phoenix Nights and the John Smith adverts, Peter Kay is slowly becoming a household name. This latest DVD is taken from his latest ?Mum Wants a Bungalow Tour? and was filmed live in his hometown of Bolton at the Royal Albert Hall. The tour itself lasted nine months, taking in over 300,000 people and still there were many like myself who couldn?t get tickets one of the hundred and eighty performances. The actual DVD starts off slowly with a scene which involves him getting to the venue in a taxi ? whilst this made me smile I?m happy to say this was slightly pointless. I?m sure it was aimed at warming us viewers up but the content that was to follow didn?t need such a thing. Thankfully this was the only disappointment. Within seconds of the performance starting Kay had me in tears. And, probably unlike any other stand up I?ve seen, this continued literally the whole way through the hour plus show. He is literally on stage, no props, no costumes ? simply him and his microphone. Peter Kay is a genius in his own right but rather than crack off the normal joke after joke he uses observations from everyday life. Not only are these extremely funny but also it is so easily to relate to them. If you watch this with friends then you?ll be continually nodding and pointing in agreement with him. Not only does the content relate to several generations but I?d feel comfortable watching this with anyone from my Sister to my Nan. Reflected in the fifteen certificate given to the DVD, Kay rarely uses vulgar language or sexual content to make the remarks funnier and this is emphasised by the attendance at the show of his Mum and his Nan ? both of which are the butt of several of his jokes. The DVD itself is broken down into thirteen chapters, or scenes but runs continuous. Unfortunately there are no special features or behind the scenes footage that accompany many DVD?s these days but this hardly retracts fr
om possibly the best stand up performance I?ve ever seen. Those that are already fans of the comedian will definitely be purchasing this or renting it but I strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good laugh; you will not be disappointed. The biggest compliment I can pay this DVD is that I borrowed it off a friend and even after watching it three times I?m going to purchase it. Simply brilliant. The show is available of DVD and video and available from all major stockists. Expect to pay around £15 for the DVD. For information on merchandise and future tours you can go to www.peterkay.co.uk.
