Seth Rogan films can be a bit hit and miss in my opinion however Pineappple Express is slightly better than his usual offerrings and is a film that once again uses stoner culture as the vehicle for the comedy so not exactly virgin film territory when it comes to characters or plot.

Rogan plays Dale Denton who is in his mid twenties and whose life is mostly devoted to smoking the rather top quality weed of a local dealer called Saul played by James Franco another prodigous user of his own product which includes the best weed going called Pineapple Express.

Dale has to deliver court papers to a drug dealer called Ted Jones who is played by Gary Cole and while doing this he sees Jones kill someone with the assistance of his girlfriend who is a police officer. Soon both he and Saul are being hunted down by the drug dealer and his cronies with the help of the police.

This film is certainly better than I expected it to be with some rather funny moments in it and a script that while predictable in places does manage to entertain.

The performances are pretty average, I have always feltthat Rogan is a bit over rated and while no one rally shines there are no obvious weak links either.

The film does move along at a fast pace and interspersed amongst the stoner humour are a few action scenes some of which are quite amusing, on the down side some of the humour is a bit purile and the whole plot is rather predictable and been done before but I have seen worse comedies and at least this one has some laughs in it.
