Advantages: great cast, good story, great special effects

Disadvantages: a bit too long

I have the 2 disc, collectors edition of this film.

I watched this last night with my fiance, its a great film for everyone I think.
The film is rated a 12 so obviously not suitable for younger kids, this is probably down to the dead pirates which I must say freaked me out the first time I saw it!

The film has eye candy for the guys with the delectable Keira 'officially the most perfect pout' Knightley.
And plenty for us ladies too with the gorgeous Johnny Depp AND Orlando Bloom, 2 of my favourites I must say!

The Plot

We start back in time with a young Elizabeth on a ship crossing from the UK to her new home in the Caribbean with her father.
She spots a boy floating on some driftwood in the sea and alerts the sailors, they rescue him; a young Will Turner and Elizabeth is told to look after him, sh finds out his name and spots his medallion necklace (a pirates medallion) and takes it off him before anybody can see.

Present day:
Elizabeths father is the governor of the men in Port Royal where they live in a huge mansion.
Will Turner is working as a blacksmith in Port Royal and is madly in love with Elizabeth!
Elizabeths father has other ideas for his daughter and wants her to marry a man he has set up for her for the army.

Jack Sparrow turns up in the nick of time to save Elizabeths life when she faints because of her tight corset and plummets to the sea below! Elizabeth wears the pirate medallion and it falls off in the sea and somehow this calls out to the ghost ship 'The Black pearl' and they come looking for it.

The town is invaded by the cursed pirates of the Black Pearl and Elizabeth is captured as they think the medallion was hers.

I won't say much more but Jack Sparrow and Will Turner end up 'commandeering' a ship and chasing the Black Pearl across the ocean facing a lot of challenges on the way....

The curse of the sailors on the Black Pearl is a bit scary!

I haven't actually watched any of these extras but there are plenty, I guess this is why its a special edition and you won't get so many with the normal edition.




There are some brilliant sword fighting scenes between Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp at the beginning of the help, these really impressed me.
For the boys, there are a lot of action sequences which I must say (as a girl) started to bore me a bit!

The story is good and easy to follow but the film does drag on a bit, its 137 minutes long so 2 hours 17 minutes and by about an hour and 3/4 I'd had enough.

Overall, I did enjoy the film.

Summary: A good film, I recommend
