Ok so until recently...(and I know with all the hype this sounds funny) but I have never had the chance or really felt the need to watch any of the pirates of the Caribbean movies.
I am not one of those girls who swoons at the mere mention of Johnny Depp's name and if im honest everyone telling me how good the movies are and what happened squashed any need to watch them. In my head the series was stored as a film about pirates with a few good actors and based on a ride at Disney world.
That was until yesterday when the movie was thrust into my face when I allowed my friend to pick the movie. This was the 1st Pirates of the Caribbean The curse of the black Pearl double disc special edition.

*+*OVERALL PLOT*+*

As most of you know the film is based around the characters of Jack Sparrow (Depp) Will Turner (Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Knightley). After the lose of his ship Jack Sparrow joins forces with Will Turner (unbeknown to him a pirates son) and a motley crew on a mission to retake control of the black pearl and at the same time rescue Elizabeth from the clutches of Hector Barbossa and his cursed crew. Barbossa believes that due to the coin around her neck and the fact she lies about her surname she is the child of Bootstrap Tuner and the coin around her neck is the last piece of the puzzle that will allow them to be released from their curse. In reality she isn't and it her rescuer Will who has the pirate blood
Will Will be able to save the love of his life?
Will Jack Sparrow be successful in his quest to regain control of his beloved Black Pearl?

The DVD extras would be a must for a fan of the films the blooper reel and deleted scenes would be enough to enhance the joys of the DVD but with the variety of extras on offer this really is fantastic. Make sure you check out the Fly on the set its well worth a watch. The DVD rom feature also offers plenty of features for your computer.

The copy I watched is listed on Amazon as £20.99 but for the film trilogy it is £12.98
Run time is approximately 2hrs 17mins
And it does have a 12 certification

*+*MY OPINIONS*+*

I was actually quite surprised that I enjoyed the movie to the extent I did. I tend to find that sometimes when a movie is hyped up so much I get a little disappointed with the eventual outcome but this had none of that. As predicted Jack Sparrow is a fantastic Character who holds the movie together with his humor.
Even though im not normally a pirate movie fan this has that something extra. Some parts do make you laugh out loud and that is always a great sign. The special effects in the film, especially that of the decomposing pirates really is a credit to its makers, they are ingenious and it is a fundamental part of the movie. The characters are very well designed and suit the actors who play them down to a tee and because of this fact the film is all that more enjoyable.
As I have said before I did enjoy the film and although it wouldn't be one that I would watch over and over but a couple of times wouldn't hurt me and I expect the couple of extras viewings might throw up the odd unnoticed fact.
I am not saying I am writing this on my way to the shop to get the other 2 in the series so far but if I happen to come across the 2nd and 3rd installments I won't hesitate to sit down and watch them.

Summary: Deffinatly worth watching.
