Advantages: Great acting, storyline, combination of genres, big names, an epic!

Disadvantages: I find it hard to locate any at all !

When this film was released in 2003, it rapidly became my favourite film, and stayed the owner of that status for a very long time. In fact, although it may not be my ultimate favourite anymore, it is still most certainly up there with my favourite of films. Now that has got to count for something. I'm sure I am not alone in thinking this IS one of the greatest films ever produced.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl could lend some of its success to its two main creators. A certain Gore Verbinski followed up his succesful works such as 'Mouse Hunt' and 'The Ring' in directing this magnificent epic.
Not alone, he had the help of producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who, lets face it, has produced every single film ever made! Well almost . . . Among his CV are some of the greatest films ever produced so it is no real surprise that the combination of these two went together as smooth as melted butter and created such a great movie.
Don't believe me? Check out the gross revenue from this film. Over $654 million dollars didnt just appear for no reason.

With this particular production team, and a budget of $140 million, you should already be assuming that the 143 minute film that came from this combination was going to be, lets say, worth a watch or two!

So, already a huge predicted success and you haven't even heard who is in it yet! Well, think of some of the greatest actors/actresses, and add them to this film and you have an epic.

Will Turner, who is arguably the main character, is played by Lord of the Rings' Legoals' and all round beloved actor, Orlando Bloom. A humble blacksmith to begin, he soon follows his heart, breaking a pirate out of jail and stealing a large vessel in attempt to hopefully rescue his love, Elizabeth Swann. Orlando plays a fun character who, although breaks a lot of rules, gets backed by the audience and easily becomes a fans favourite. In my opinion, he plays his on par (with Legolas) best role and is definately an enjoyable addition to the movie.

Turners love interest, Miss Elizabeth Swann was obviously going to be a big name. And, you don't get much bigger than Keira Knightley. You also rarely get better! In general, she is an amazing actress, but something about her in this film really makes her fit in even more with her character. This film is set in historic times, and for some reason, she completely fits in with the time period in which her role is set. Not only that, but she completes an astounding performance as the Governors daughter and is easily one of the best characters in the film.

The loveable, but technically bad guy, pirate in the form of Captain Jack Sparrows is magnificently played by Johnny Depp in this, his best ever role in a film, I would say so anyway. Again, arguably the main character, he is actually quite funny at times, a small genre addition that expands the vast quality of this film.

The fourth main character contender comes in the form of actual bad guy pirate Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush. Having not seen him in many other films, I eagerly watched his performance in hoping he was as good an actor as the others. I can safely say that he most definately was! Obviously not as loveable as the others, he added mystery to the film in the form of being captain of the cursed pirates, which, as the storyline goes, is a main aspect of the movie. It was apparent that this character is feared by many, including the audience and adds a fearsome aspect to the movie.

Many other great actors are present in this film, and each and every one of them were excellent, however not as big household names as the main four. One that does deserve a mention however, is one of the pirates', Mackenzie Crook, (The Offices' Gareth Keenan). Playing a sligtly 'dumb' character, he forces most of the laughs, especially when his removeable eyes falls out at the most inconvenient of times. Just look out for the scene when a certain item of cutelry becomes an unwanted addition to his face - priceless !

The Curse of The Black Pearl is a film that contains a lot, ranging from great acting, through a magnificent storyline, whilst containing comedy and surprises along the way. There are also some wonderful fight scenes throughout the film, and it is also very interesting to see how things operated in those times in that area.

This was not one of my favourite films for nothing. If you haven't already seen this movie, then waste no more time. See it immediately for maximum enjoyment!

Summary: See it immediately for maximum enjoyment!
