The Pirates of the Caribbean: The curse of the Black Pearl. This is the latest pirate movie to be released for our enjoyment. The story is about Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) who had his ship The Black Pearl Taken from him and then was marooned on an island. While a young Elizabeth Swann helps rescue a young boy (Will Turner) adrift on the high seas. She hides his necklace that he was wearing to save him from being discovered as a possible pirate. Anyway the trio come together and have to track down the pirate ship The Black Pearl. Each has reasons. Jack simply wants his ship back and to take revenge on his first mate that took his ship from him and will wants to rescue Elizabeth. As it happens some time earlier the pirate crew of The Black Pearl got their hands on some cursed treasure and the necklace that Will was wearing, is part of it. The crew are trying to re-coup that treasure in the hope of breaking the curse that they now suffer. By day they look like ordinary pirates but by moonlight they are revealed in their true form and rotten decayed zombies of pirates who have an insatiable lust for treasure and raiding. However with their curse their lust keeps growing and no matter how much they acquire it simply will not satiate their appetite. Obviously with them being undead they cannot be killed and that?s how their fearsome reputation grows as they tend to leave as few people alive as possible. Jack and Wills futures are all interwoven with the pirates and this unfolds as the story progresses. Jack is quite an extraordinary character which you will have to see this film to understand what I mean and the story is quite amusing and engrossing at the same time. The film itself has plenty of twists and turns and has plenty of excellent effects to keep this movie looking great. The actual storyline of the movie however is a bit abstract. The movie itself would have been greater if some of the tomfoolery had been removed and the films leng
th reduced to the standard plot that it has?. It could and would have been a lot better if the comical edge was removed to keep this a straight action/adventure movie. A good example of this is the opening sequence where Jack sails into port standing on top of the uppermost part of the highest mast. The reason for this is because his ship has sunk but it is still meant to be sailing forwards into the harbour even though there are no masts or anything above water to give it any forward motion and comes to rest perfectly alongside the wharf or jetty where you would dock. It could also be meant to be a parody of the old swashbuckling films with the amount of swordplay and over exaggerated stunts while they are fighting. However though it is a movie that is a must see for me as I do not want to state too much about it to spoil the movie for anyone who may not have saw this film as yet. The movie seems to be geared almost like a comedy at times or a family movie but being rated at 13 a lot of younger people who would love this film will not be able to see it. Will definatley be a family style movie and probably be a lot more suited to a Dvd release. Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) Johnny Depp (Capt. Jack Sparrow) Geoffrey Rush (Capt. Barbossa) Keira Knightly (Elizabeth Swann) Mackenzie Crook (Ragetti aka Woodeye, Capt. Sparrow's sidekick) Johnathan Pryce (Governor Swann) Isaac C. Singleton Jr. (Bosun) Director : Gore Verbinski Pirates Of The Caribbean Written By :Jay Wolpert, Stuart Beattie, Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott Producers : Jerry Bruckheimer
