Advantages: Vin Diesel holds the screen V Well, Different feel to many movies, surprise ending (ish)
Disadvantages: Won't appeal to all, a few cliches, surprise ending (ish)
I can safely start by saying that Pitch Black will not appeal to every cinema goer. While I rate this as one of my favourite films of the past couple of years my other friends are less keen on the film, one fell asleep and another dispite liking Sci-Fi didn't rate it. If you do plan to see it you need to be a fan of either Sci-Fi, Horror or the actor Vin Diesel. The film is set after a crash landing on an alien world with the crew trying to escape before the nasty creatures kill them all. The film is split between the build up during the day when the screen is bathed in a dull yellow light which emphasises the alieness of the world and the dark when the cretures come out to play. In the dark we have night vision special effects from both the creatures who see movement and Vin Diesel's character which seems to see similar to heat vision, both of which add some different perspective. Diesel is very good as the anti-hero of the piece and sparks well off the female lead (Radha Mitchell). The movie is definately setting itself as a B-movie on big release in the same way as Deep Blue Sea (shark movie) was a B-movie with money. There are a few surprises during the film, who dies, who gets on with who and how they try to escape.

- 11/10/01 Hi- welcome to dooyoo!
Sounds like a good film, though if you want to get a higher rating for your op, you could include more about the characters/actors in it, and your personal opinion and the reasons for it.
Hope this helps you!
Cheers
