I've read quite a few good opinions about Pitch Black, and from what I've read it sounded like a film I would enjoy, so when I was shopping for something new to watch I picked this, as I like sci-fi films quitw a lot. The nearest film to this that I can think of is the original Alien movie, and Pitch Black actually starts in a ... Read the complete review

I can safely start by saying that Pitch Black will not appeal to every cinema goer. While I rate this as one of my favourite films of the past couple of years my other friends are less keen on the film, one fell asleep and another dispite liking Sci-Fi didn't rate it. If you do plan to see it you need to be a fan of either Sci-Fi, Horror ... Read the complete review

Sci-fi movies have always seemed somewhat hit and miss to me, and it was with some trepidation that went wandering along to my local cinema to watch this a few months ago. I had heard mixed reviews about it and I really hate sitting through bad movies in a cinema because its not as if you can just change the channel or fast forward through the ... Looking back over the old reviews I'd written when I first joined and was ashamed, so thought I'd better do something about them. Here is the new, improved (hopefully) version of the Pitch Black review... I was one of those people fooled by the clever advertising talk that was bandied around about this DVD. A classic cult hit ... Read the complete review

Pitch black is not a film about Northamptons nightlife or President Mugabe’s next cabinet, but a rather quirky horror/sci-fi flick. Essex Junglist girl fav sexual activity Vin Diesel is back, or is that the back of a diesel van. Anyhow he’s good in it and looks like he’s going to be de man. The film is kinda ... Well, you should be! Because Pitch Black is an exciting, edge of your seat Sci-fi horror thriller. The basic premise of the film is that a cargo ship, transporting people to a distant planet, accidentally gets caught in an asteroid belt. The ship takes heavy damage and crashlands on a desert planet with three suns which keeps the planet ... Read the complete review

‘Pitch Black’ was one of the surprise hits of its year, a film which took a rather hackneyed science fiction scenario, that of a spaceship crash-landing on an inhospitable planet, and made it original and interesting by virtue of unconventional character types and the clever use of a less-than-mega budget to maximise the impact of the ... I missed this little nightmare when it was in the theaters, and I've been kicking myself ever since. Instead I viewed it at home with a friend of mine who is a die hard sci-fi fan. He did not find this as funny as I did and has refused to watch anything else with me since I couldn't contain the screams of laughter. We open with a ship ... Read the complete review

A passenger ship crash lands in a desert on an unknown planet. Only a handful survive. It's hot, dry, and I recommend you have a drink handy before settling to watch the blazing sunshine beat down on the victims. This planet has three suns, and nightfall comes only once every 22 years. Then there's Riddick. He's an escaped ... Read the complete review

Pitch Black is a welcome addition to the "SF Horror" category, most famously represented by "Quatermass and the Pit" and by the Alien series. The plot can be described as "Nightfall with critters" - Nightfall being the famous Isaac Asimov short story. Pitch Black actually contains a nod to its inspiration in that one ... People land on a barren, empty planet where there seems to be no living organisms. Gradually characters are picked off one-by-one until it dawns on the surviving lot that there's a very nasty alien life-form out there that finds humans rather tasty. Sound familiar? Yep, it's the basic out-line for the Alien films and the recent Pitch ... Read the complete review

The film Pitch Black may seem to be just another cheap Alien copy, but look under the surface and it is actually an intelligent yet action packed film. Although it is low budget the special effects are very good and the action is tense and exciting. The film starts on a spaceship freighter carrying our cast, crash-landing on a desert ... When I was first invited to watch this film at a friend’s house, even after hearing good things about it, I was still sceptical about how much I would enjoy a derogative and generic film such as this. But once settled down to my friend’s wonderful home cinema set up, I found myself quickly drawn into David Twohy’s alien world of ... Read the complete review

Oh my god. This film is one of the best sci-fi's i have ever seen with the exception of aliens (as a media student i know what i am talking about well apparently) I will guarentee you will not look at your watch once this film really does keep you interested and maintains your concentration throughout. A dodgy science fiction setting, a formula that's been done over and over again, a semi-unknown cast, a lead who looks like he came runner up in a Duke Nukem look- (and sound-) alike contest, a collection of sets which are predominantly barren desert, and a few of special effects. Doesn't sound very good does it? Well fortunately, Pitch ... Read the complete review

I have already reviewed the actual film and this is a review on the DVD, but just incase, I’ll add a short bit about the films plot! The film itself is about a spaceship which crash lands on a desert earth with about 8 survivors from different races who have to adapt to the new surroundings. However, they find that there is some ... Read the complete review

Pitch Black has got numerous reviews on here rating it very highly. Although Pitch Black has been seen to an extent as a B movie, it undoubtedly sticks out like a sore thumb in this months new video releases as being one of the best films of the year. I think it is high time for me to re-write this review which I first "penned" back in 2001. After re-reading what I had originally written I cringed at its ineffectiveness to portray the film effectively.
