This sci fi chiller begins with a spectacular crash landing on an desert like alien world and from that moment on the action just doesn't let up. The group of survivors, including escaped convict Riddick, spend the first few minutes salvaging what supplies have made it and then try to find shelter from the sweltering heat. They find a deserted ... Read the complete review

I nhad the pleasure of watching Pitch Black last night. I love Science Fiction and as a result i am very critical of how these things are presented to me. I dont like 'corny' B movies that have lots of action and no story, nor do i like movies that have a good story but the scenery shakes. The plot is very simple. A space ship ... I hadn’t heard of this movie before I read a very brief advert in the local video store magazine, but I had a coupon for ROROF (Rent One Rent One Free) in Blockbuster so I decided to go for it. I am something of a fan when it comes to science fiction, so the film certainly appealed to me. Set in the future, Pitch Black tells the story ... Read the complete review

Pitch Black is a Sci Fi film in the Aliens mould. It nearly got forgotton among the many films in the cinema and slated as unoriginal due to many films that have taken on the same well worn theme. The film, however, is original in that it pits the 'bad buy' against the aliens this time around. The general plot line is that a ... Read the complete review

I saw Pitch Black in a movie preview in May 2000 which was a few weeks before cinematic release. For some reason it was then out back a few months so I was happy I got into the preview. Due to the film being released in the USA way before it hit the UK anyone with a multi-region player had the opportunity to get it on dvd before UK ... Read the complete review

Low-budget this may be, but it's evident from the word go that writer/director Twohy has wrung every last drop from it - the opening crash sequence being an object lesson in how to manufacture shell-shocking, sci-fi thrills from tuppence-ha'penny: a fingernail-tearing, neck-wrenching ride into nose-dive terror, made all the more effective ... Mans fear of the dark is well documented, just look to your own childhood- ‘Were you afraid of the Dark?’ Evil is traditionally associated with the black of night and most films prey upon the darkness to depict the psychological horror in your head, Hitchcock being the master of using light and shadow in his best, most chilling films. ... One Tuesday afternoon, after a boring 1 1/2 hours at college, myself and a few mates decided to go see a film, we went to Epsom cinema and asked what was showing, 'Pitch Black' was about to start. None of us had heard anyting about it on TV or the newspapers, but we decided to give it a shot. We sat down in the cinema after missing about 5 ... Read the complete review

Low budget Sci Fi flick, PITCH BLACK may seem to be just another ‘Alien(s) rip-off’ - when in fact the film has a lot more to offer, despite having stolen (or should I say ‘borrowed’) from at least half a dozen bigger budget movies. The crew (a cast of unknowns) crashes on a planet while en-route to various ... Read the complete review

This film was extremely late openeing here in the UK, so late in fact that the USA DVD version was already out! This is a great shame, but doesn't detract overly from the film itself, which is a well written and produced sci fi thriller, made on a reasonable budget, but with some very cool special FX. The basic storyline revolves ... Read the complete review

Pitch Black is probably the must visually arresting film youll ever see. They strange Planet the cast find themselves marooned on is amazing, with its three suns and strangely tinted daylight, its massive planetary companion and its alein inhabitants it certainly makes you sit up and take notice. Pitch Black is the film to see if you are going to the cinema. It is scary in parts, yes, but the story is just amazing. Sometime in the future the crew of a space ship are frozen in time. Two of the crew awake to find the ship out of control and flying towards a planet that they did not intend to go too. After crash-landing only some of ... Read the complete review

This is an opinion on the region 1 (USA and Canada) DVD release. The film, which was directed by David N. Twohy and was only recently showing in cinemas in the UK, is a science fiction film – so unless they really botch it I’m going to like it! The rest of the opinion gives just a brief outline of the plot and the principal characters ... Read the complete review

So you're flying across space, happily snoozing away in a cryogenic state when your spaceship comes a cropper and you have to ditch on a nearby planet. Loads of people die in the crash and the ship is trashed, but you and 8 or 9 others survive and the atmosphere, while thin, is breathable - that was lucky. But let's face it not many ... Brilliant mindless fun! Not to do down this film at all, but it is the sort of story that works best if you leave your brain at the door. The plot: a spacecraft crash lands on a deserted planet and the survivors, including an unrepentant murderer, have to find water and the means to escape. This film opens onboard a space-craft , and one expects a long introduction to the main characters , and an explanation of the plot etc. , as you would normally get from the opening of a movie.
