Having entered several website competitions I won free tickets to the opening of Manchesters new UCI filmworks multiplex (at the Printworks) and my prize tickets stated I had preview tickets for Pitch Black. Being a bit of a film buff (Empire subscriber) I was unfamiliar with the film. So I checked on uk.imdb.com for more details. The basic ... Read the complete review

I have noticed recently that when reading dooyou opinions on Films, people have a tendency of giving the great chunks of the plot away so I'm going to make this as informative as I can without giving anything away. Pitch Black is a low budget sci-fi thriller who's nearest comparison would be Aliens. A cargo ship in deep space ... Read the complete review

I spent most of the film trying to work out where I'd seen lead actress Radha Mitchell before, and before I say anything else about the film, yes, she did use to be in 'Neighbours'. The general release of 'Pitch Black' has been put back several times this year, having originally been scheduled for release in March this ... Read the complete review

The plot revolves around a crashing spacecraft, some less than fortunate passengers and a planet with plenty of rather unfriendly inhabitants. Are they all get going to get off in one piece or are we talking gruesome death and destruction with a few scares thrown in? If you really need to ask may I suggest the Disney section of your local video ... Read the complete review

I was lucky enough to catch a pre-screening of this film months ago before it was put back till November. Pitch Black is a very cool and novel approach to sci-fi. It's plot has some hints at Alien but this still has a lot of fresh ideas. The story puts a bunch of shipwreck survivors on an unknown planet. It's not long before they discover ... I'd never heard of David Twohny before I watched the unrated directors cut DVD of Pitch Black but off the talent filmes on the disk found he had written a few films including the Fugitive, Waterworld and Critters 2. He moved into directing with 1996's The Arrival but its here in Pitch Black where he really shines and makes a great film ... Read the complete review

Pitch Black was my most anticipated movie of the year and after having watched it I feel that it was a movie that showed a lot of potential but never delivered. The characters are completely under-developed and the dialogue and plotting is dull at best. The effects are quite good but are noticable CGI which should be better by now, and the ... The film's plot is obviuosly similar to Aliens, but this film is easily far superior to anything the Alien series has come up with in over a decade. There are several reasons for this. For one thing, this is a film in which we finally get interesting characters. This is due mostly to the lead roles from Diesel and Mitchell. Diesel's ... Read the complete review

You know the score by now. In previous years we've been treated to the likes of The Relic, Mimic and Ananconda. All fairly entertaining in a seen-it-all-before kind of way, but not exactly ground breaking. And now we have Pitch Black. But does it fare any better? Well, no, not really. The plot is simple (and predictable) enough - ... Read the complete review
