Advantages: Good storyline and special effects
Disadvantages: You may find it dull
A world where there has never been any rain. Never been any hatred. Never been any tears or aggression, is about to change. I remember watching this when i was in America and was truly intrigued by the powerful storyline, hidden amongst the scenes of comedy. Two teenagers enter the television show, ‘Pleasantville’, after they receive a new remote control off a mysterious television repair guy (and a Pleasantville fan). This leads to them being zapped into the 1950’s black and white American T.V series. Gradually the people of Pleasantville start to experience such strange wonders as love, art, music and even make rain for themselves. The town slowly turns from black and white into Technicolor as they confront such situations as an actual fire, opposed to a cat in a tree. Pleasantville has it’s dark side, and some of the black and white people aren’t too happy about changes in the town. Eventually the town turns from a white-picket-bearing place to a town hounded by bullies. The charades that go on result in changes in each of the characters, so be ready for a twist in the ending. It deals with topical issues and presents them in a modern way. There are very good special effects, especially towards the end, which must buy film. Reese Witherspoon and Tobey Maguire star.
