Advantages: Much better than the first movie in all aspects.

Disadvantages: Still could be better.

Everyone (even hardcore Pokemon fans) who has seen the first Pokemon movie, imaginatively titled ‘Pokemon: The First Movie’, will probably be a little bit sceptical about the thought of a sequel seeing as the first movie was a big pile of pants (in keeping with the comic relief theme at the time this opinion was written) but as the title of this review suggests, Pokemon 2000 is a major evolution on the first pathetic effort.

I can honestly say that I found Pokemon 2000 (or Revelation Lugia as the movie was called in Japan) a major improvement in every way compared to the ‘Mon’s’ first big screen outing. I guess the folks at Nintendo must have had a long, hard think about how they went about making the movies after the awful reviews the first movie received and decided that they weren’t going to get away with as much as they thought and that they would have to apply a bit of effort this time round and it was a wise decision to make.

Every aspect of Pokemon 2000 has been given a major overhaul. The animation has greatly improved and I was almost speechless (Almost!!) at certain scenes which expressed great detail (these included the winter scenes and the amazing, almost 3D detail on the bad guy in the movie’s mobile fortress). The story line in this movie is also a lot better than in the first one which is probably because the first film barely HAD a story line and this means that even adults can follow the plot.

I’m not going to give away the plot because then no one who reads this would go and see it, now would they? The basic story line when I think about it is not actually that ‘basic’ and I imagine that most of the 5 to 5 and a half year olds that crowded the cinema probably had a hard time following it and one thing I KNOW the kids didn’t pick up on was the air of sexual tension between the male and female lead characters when another female character comes onto
the scene which I found quite amusing and at the same time subtly shocking.

The movie also had it’s humorous moments for both kids and adults alike and I managed to let loose a giggle on more than one occasion during the course of the 80 mins or so in which the film ran. Although I don’t want to give away the plot of the story (all those parents who are going to be dragged kicking and screaming to the cinema to see it by their kids or who are forced to watch it on video need to have some saving grace right?), I will say that the moral of the story is that one person can make a difference and I’m sure all you parents out there will agree that in today’s society of depressed, underachieving teens, this is a good message to bear in mind.

Hey everyone. Sorry it's been a while since my last opinion but hopefully I'll have time to write a few more good 'uns!
