Porridge ~~~~~~ Written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. This is my all time favourite comedy. Set in prison you might think it a dour and confining place to make a comedy but with superb writing, comic genius and superb character acting from a class team of actors, you end up with a true classic that will absolutely stand the test of time. Let me take you on my appreciation tour of PORRIDGE. Time line: ~~~~~~~ It all began on the 1st of April (aptly enough) in 1973 when a pilot aired on the BBC called 'Prisoner and Escort'. It followed Norman Stanley Fletcher being escorted to Prison by Mr McKay and Mr ... Read the complete review

I have just been watching the second series of Porridge on DVD and, as usual, laughing out loud at it again. Dave bought me all three series and the Christmas specials a couple of years ago and they regularly come out when I fancy a good laugh. The current price of the DVDs on the HMV site is £6.99 for each series and a separate DVD of the Christmas Specials or they are available as a set of four DVDs for £16.99. Porridge was written by Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais and starred Ronnie Barker as Fletcher and Richard Beckinsale as Godber. They are kept on their toes by the two main prison officers (known as screws); the strict Mr Mackay ... Read the complete review

Porridge is a classic situational comedy that ran for 3 series between the years 1974 to 1977. It stars Ronnie Barker as quick-witted Norman Stanley Fletcher who's serving five years for breaking and entering and sees prison simply as an occupational hazard rather than a deterrent. The series follows his antics whilst he is in prison as well as the trials and tribulations of all those around him, including young Godber who is on his first prison stint. The Porridge series 2 DVD contains all 6 brilliant episodes from the second series, which was originally transmitted between 24th October 1975 and 28th November 1975. The first series on the whole introduced us ... Read the complete review
