Newest Review: ... film is that it crosses generic boundaries. It takes all the coolness of army films - the training, the high powered teams, ... more

... the costume and weaponry, and throws a sci-fi/horror angle into it with the monster. The result is that you have a film which ticks two boxes at once, and that's quite an achievement. In terms of plot, it contains the usual army stuff, but the alien element keeps it interesting, and it's an edge of your seat action film that, whilst a tad predictable at times, is actually a very original idea. Arnold Schwarzenegger can never be called a great actor, but if you're playing a character called 'Dutch', I don't suppose ...more

Crowned Review Predator (Special Edition, DVD): Definitive!!!!! My Eye (1566 words)

Review of the Predator: Definitive Edition DVD I had not seen Predator for about 18 years, despite already having it in my DVD collection however I decided that with my HMV vouchers I'd splash out and buy the "Definitive Edition". The case is rather cleverly done, in the shading etc. The case is one of the ever increasing steelbook editions, basically a tin box. The definitive edition release like to use the tin's natural colourings as well as painting over the top in places. The Predator release works better than any other, because if you look at the case head on, you see the predator image, which is half predator, and half you. Maybe it was ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review He came to get the body. He's killing us one at a time. (852 words)

I've always fancied a trip to Guatemala or Equador to check out the jungles and the amazing landscapes and wildlife, however I have to admit this film did put me off for many years, it has been widely imitated since but is a brilliant action film with strong narrative and intelligent script, and it stars Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Plot: Deep in the darkest recesses of a latin American jungle, American government agents keep disappearing, this leads patriotic commando Dillon (Carl Weathers) to pull together a crack team of old buddies to track down whats happening down their and nip it in the bud and bring home the missing Americans, the crack team ...  Read the complete review

Ah, the 80's. That good old decade where everything was crap, right? At first glance, it would appear to be that way and if you think back to the 80's you're probably more likely to remember the crap things before you remember the good things. A lot of people criticize the music from the 80's, but I think it was head and shoulders above the cinema of that decade which was incredibly poor. One thing that 80's cinema got right though was the brain dead action movie. Thanks to people like Stallone and Schwarzenegger, and directors like James Cameron and John McTiernan we can look back on such quality movies as Rambo, Commando, Aliens, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Predator (Special Edition, DVD): One Of Schwarzenegger's Greatest Films (1459 words)

Plot Summary: Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his team are called in to rescue a cabinet minister being held captive by guerrilla forces. Dillon (Carl Weathers) an old friend of Dutch joins the team and they travel by helicopter to their destination. Upon successfully eliminating their enemies at a nearby camp, Dutch discovers that the mission was actually an assassination mission to wipe out the guerrillas, and the story of the cabinet minister was a lie to lure Dutch to the scene, as Dillon needed him for his abilities. Dutch is enraged about the deceit, but this is the least of his worries, as a strange presence in the forest gradually begins to reveal ...  Read the complete review
