Prime (DVD) ... 25 September, 2006 at Momentum Pictures / Features of the DVD: PAL / Two women get a new and unusual perspective on the doctor/patient relationship in this romantic comedy. Rafi Gardet (Uma Thurman) is a woman in her mid-thirties who has recently gone through a messy divorce. Rafi has been seeing an analyst, Lisa Metzger (Meryl Streep), as she struggles to get back on her feet emotionally and look for new love. Rafi meets a man named David Bloomberg (Bryan Greenberg), and the two quickly hit it off, but Rafi isn't sure if she should pursue the relationship, since David is only 23 years old. After discussing the burgeoning romance during one of their weekly sessions, Lisa urges Rafi to take a plunge with David, and not be afraid to seek out the companionship she needs. However, there's something about David that Lisa doesn't know -- he's her son. Rafi doesn't know that Lisa is David's mother, either, and both psychiatrist and patient are thrown for a loop when they learn the truth.

... well, he plays 'dumb' well, he plays 'witty one liners on the first date' well, he plays 'concentrating on video games' well, and most importantly he plays 'rippling six-pack' well. The film centres around a recently divorced 37 year old woman (Uma), her newly found toyboy (Bryan), and her therapist (Meryl). I won't give away the twist in the film but the relationship between these three characters is not quite as straight forward as it seems. I am annoyed with myself that I didn't see it coming, but then it is reveal...more

Crowned Review Prime (DVD): A Film in its Prime! (795 words)

My rentals list has been a bit low lately as there aren't really that many films out that appeal to me so I just left it to the choice of the Gods (aka Blockbusters!) and let them choose me a random title based on other films I've hired out. They sent me Prime, a romantic comedy which actually looked quite good, so myself and my other half finally got round to watching it last night, and we were both left pleasantly surprised! Rafi is a 37 year old woman who's just gotten divorced, and is feeling lonely. Her psychotherapist Lisa recommends to her to find another man to keep her happy for now. So when Rafi, by chance, meets Dave and falls for him she's a bit ...  Read the complete review

I seem to be reviewing a little of female products recently, and just so I don't disappoint I thought I would review a chick flick. I sat down with no expectations about this film, normally I would at least want to know a sketchy outline of the plot, or have read a summary, but for this one I went in as blind as a mole with cataracts. This is quite a refreshing thing to do, I should do this more often, damn all these review sites spoiling the fun! First thing that struck me about this film was the strong female cast, Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep, that's quite a dream team. I had not heard of the male lead, Bryan Greenberg, I assumed that this was because ...  Read the complete review

Now those of you who have been following my film reviews of late you will see that there are not actually that many which I have given more than three stars. This is why I am shocked and delighted that finally I have found a film that is recent and actually deserves four stars. I fancied watching Prime when I saw trailers for it at the cinema but nobody else I knew actually wanted to give it a go. So now it is out on DVD I decided to watch it and although it is a slightly long and predictable film I have to say I enjoyed almost every minute and here is why. ----- The Film: Rafi is a 37 year old woman who has just begun the painful ...  Read the complete review

A friend and I went into the cinema a few years ago back in 2006, to see Prime. AT the time it was an amazingly hysterical film but for some reason I did not bother to buy the DVD when it was released. Though justbefore Chrstmas last year I decided to buy it when it was in a sale, and I am glad I did! So what is it about? Prime is a romantic comedy film about Rafi meets a man much younger than her named David. Rafi's therapist is David's mother, unknowingly to them all, and soon Rafi is talking intimite details with her therapist- about her son! Will she discover who her lover is before the facts become unbearable? There is something unique about ...  Read the complete review

I don’t go to the cinema as regularly as I used to but I do still go to see the odd blockbuster or feel good movie and this is definitely what Prime was. I had seen the trailer and thought it looked funny but still wasn’t sure. A friend however persuaded me to go along so I went. All I knew was that Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman were in it both great actresses so I decided to take a chance. This film is basically a love story, not the usual love store though. Rafi Gardet is some kind of a fashion photographer, she is 37 years old and recently got divorced. Lisa is Rafi’s therapist whom she goes to very regularly to tell everything to, her love life, problems, ...  Read the complete review
