What is it that makes Proof of Life enjoyable? Reasonable acting? Reasonable plot? Reasonable action sequences?

The film is passable and holds an interesting insight into the realm of kidnap and ransom negotiators. More interesting than the (less than tantalising) relationship between Terry and Alice is the viewer’s analysis of the developing real life relationship between Crowe and Ryan.

Without a doubt, it’s Russell Crowe’s screen presence and innate oozing of charisma that carries the film. Off screen, he’s a stocky guy with a bad haircut. Even in stills from films, he doesn’t see to have that X Factor and yet roll cameras and every woman’s fire is lit. Even better, he has a charm that is not just sexy but also masculine and admirable from a mail perspective. Choosing characters that do not compromise their masculinity whilst remaining ‘in touch’ with their emotions – Crowe is liked by men and women alike.

This is the stuff that the old silver screen movie stars were made of and Russell Crowe exudes it in all his confidence.
