Advantages: Awesome film - must see!
Disadvantages: A bit depressing
This film is based on a true story about Christopher Gardner (Will Smith), who is struggling to make ends meet and whom is financially struggling, as he tries to suppost his child, as well as his wife. He lives from "hand to mouth" on a day to day basis, as he tries to sell medical equipment to hospitals, which works like an X-ray machine but charges about twice the price of a standard X-ray machine.
He later finds his way into applying for an unpaid scholarship as a stock broker, which he starts focusing on, as a goal to support his family and live a better life. Due to the fact that this is an unpaid scholarship, Christopher Gardner finds it difficult to cope financially and still tries to sell his medical equipment on the side as a means for income.
However, his wife walks out on him as she is fed up with the struggling and trying to survive in the city, and also states that she can get a job elsewhere which earns a better income for herself. She leaves Christopher Gardner and the story turns to how they start to live and things only get worse before they get any better. They go from living in a flat, to living in a motel, and then eventually as you start thinking that things cannot go anymore wrong, they eventually hit rock bottom and end up sleeping in a bathroom in a subway station, between ocassionally sleeping in a homeless shelter.
This is a very moving and sensational film, with a great performance from Will Smith.
I can highly recommend this film and in fact loved it so much, that I went out bought it on DVD. Since then, I watched it many times.
I must say that it would have been nice to see a bit more "happyness" in the film though.
Summary: How some people live on a day to day basis and what they go through to achieve what they want
