The intriguingly titled 'Q' is another imaginative piece of work written, directed and produced, by Larry Cohen. One of the horror genre's more 'original' directors, Cohen here manages to combine elements of the detective/film noir genre which was being done to death at the time of its production with that of the giant monster movies of the 40s. The result is a bizarre masterpiece which really ought not to have worked at all but through some clever camera-work, expert audience manipulation and the imaginative use of New York's architecture, Cohen manages to pull it all together expertly.
