Advantages: Action packed, typical bond film
Disadvantages: Thin plot line and lacked depth
Quantum of Solace, the eagerly awaited follow up to Casino Royale was always going to have trouble living up to arguably the best bond film to date, not to mention the fact that everyone has different opinions on how a bond film should be.
Quantum of Solace starts off with bond pursuing the people who he believes were behind the death of his love, Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale. This organisation turns out to be extremely powerful yet unknown to MI6. This leads to bond uncovering a plot by this organisation to drive up water prices in Bolivia. This was one of the things i disliked about the film. I thought that this was a fairly thin plotline which, along with other parts of the film, lacked depth.
Quantum of Solace was criticised a lot for being a poor follow up to Casino Royale but i don't believe that is a fair review of this film. The film itself is not too much different to many other bond films (lots of action, plot line thin, gratuitous sex etc.) I just believe that its predecessor paved a way for a more intelligent Bond film which has not been followed up and i think this is a shame. I also believe that the other complaint by viewers of this film, that Bond was not solemn enough. I would have to disagree as i think the film portrayed a pissed off, hurt and angry man who has vowed to never again allow himself to expose his own vulnerabilities as he did in Casino Royale as well as following his search for vengeance.
In summary, this film is good but given the expectation surrounding it could have been better.
Summary: Must see but don't have your expectations too high
