Raging Bull is an acclaimed 1980 film directed by Martin Scorsese about the life of boxer and former world middlewight champion Jake (The Raging Bull) Lamotta. It stars Robert DeNiro as Lamotta and was based on Lamotta's 1970 autobiography. Paul Schrader was involved in adapting the book for the screen. Italian-American Lamotta was raised in a slum district of the Bronx (a world which Scorsese brilliantly recreates in the film) and served time in reform school and prison.
