I spotted this on Film 4 a few days ago so I thought I'd give it a try. ==Synopsis== H.I. "Hi" McDunnough is a career criminal, unfortunately it's not a career he's any good at and spends more of his time in jail than out of it. Because he's caught so often he strikes up a rapport with Edwina, the police officer who takes his mug shots each time. Eventually McDunnough decides to go straight and eventually he and Edwina get married and they want to settle down and have a family. Unfortunately they find out Edwina cannot have children, and in a fit of despair they conceive a plan to take one of the Arizona quintuplets, ... Read the complete review

Raising Arizona is a Coen Brothers film, both written and directed by the brothers in the late 80s, released in 1987 and starring Nicholas Cage and Holly Hunter in the leading roles. Usually I hate Nicholas Cage so much that I cannot bear to watch an entire film with him in, I have to say that this film is most definitely the exception that makes the rule. Like classic Coen brothers (think The Big Lebowski and Burn After Reading) this kooky comedy is easy to follow and features some great one liners. Cast ------- Herbert McDunnough - Nicholas Cage Edwina McDunnough - Holly Hunter Nathan Arizona - Trey Wilson Gale ... Read the complete review

The Coen Brothers came to prominence with the masterful thriller Blood Simple in 1984, and have since crafted films from a variety of genres, and in 2008, won the Best Picture/Best Director Academy Awards for their film No Country for Old Men. Raising Arizona, which immediately followed Blood Simple in 1987, is as great an example as any of how diverse they are as filmmakers, going from hard boiled thriller to a highly optimistic screwball comedy. If anything else, Raising Arizona is among the little cinematic evidence that Nicolas Cage can act. As will become a staple for their most tread genre (the comedy), Raising Arizona has a quirky plot (although not so ... Read the complete review

I bought this DVD in Tesco for £3 and its really good! It is written and directed by the Coen Brothers, of Fargo, Big Lebowski LadyKillers fame. This is another Oddball comedy. I would consider myself to have good taste in fims, owning quite a few of the IMDB top 200 films of all time! This now will not challenge the Godfather for its #1 spot but nevertheless its still a cracking film! It was released in 1987 and stars Nicholas Cage, Holly Hunter and John Goodman. One of the things I enjoy most about Coen Bros films is that they keep using the same actors, so you start to feel for them. Frances McDormand also plays a cameo role in this ... This is another great film by the Coen Brothers(Blood Simple, Millers Crossing, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O'Brother Where Art Thou), and it has Nicolas Cage in a quality comedy role. The main plot of the film is that Hi(Cage)is a petty criminal who robs quick stop stores, and he gets married to a policewoman played by Holly Hunter. The problems start when they find that they can't have children. They soon discover that a local couple have had a whole set so they steal one thinking that the couple have got more than they can handle anyway. So the plot consists of their troubles looking after the baby and pretending that its theirs. The film has some very ... Read the complete review
