Nearly twenty years after the last Rambo movie Stallone still looks good in the role. Although aged he uses his experience to still make the character believable and tough. The rest of the supporting cast are their literally to support Stallone. The film was shot in Burma and made it so realistic with the harsh surroundings that add a sense of tensio...more

Premium Review Rambo (DVD): Rambo 4, ........lets hope there's no 5 (617 words)

Let me start by saying Rambo first blood, I enjoyed, the next 2 movies sucked, so I was hopeful of a mature Sly giving us a superb Rambo 4. If you want to watch this film, DO NOT read on there are some plot reveals and it will spoil it for you... you have been WARNED. Oh, eat your popcorn quickly you made need the bucket! The start of the film shows footage of torture victims and dead bodies from previous Burmese wars, not an auspicious start, in fact, it sets the tone for the film. Next we see people being blown up and gunned down in a paddy field, enter the bad guy. Cut away to a river and jungle scene and Enter our hero catching ...  Read the complete review

Last night I went to see Sylvester Stallone's latest movie, RAMBO. This is the 4th in the series which started with FIRST BLOOD back in the late 1970s. The story has John Rambo living peacefully in Thailand. He is approached by a group of American missionaries to take the up-river into Burma, where they hope to provide medical care, and to spread the word of God. Initially Rambo doesn't want to take them - Burma is a warzone and he thinks they are daft. However he is talked into it by the pretty blonde in the team, played by Julie Benz, who I remember from her guest appearances as the vampire Darla in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANGEL. Rambo takes them ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Rambo (DVD): Rambo is back (352 words)

I wasn't sure how this was going to pan out when I went to see it at the cinema a few weeks ago, I like a good action film but could Sly Stallone really pull this off more than 25 years after the first instalment was made. My answer to that is yes. Stallone is back as John Rambo and he is meaner and angrier than ever. With a bigger budget and better effects this film surpassed my expectations, he still dosen't say much in the film but thats what Rambo is all about. The story line is basic but thats all it needs to be, as the film shows john rambo doing what he does best fighting and killing people all justified I might add. So the outline of the ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review First to 1000th blood (599 words)

After his return to prominence last year (2007) when he brought back his major iconic character Rocky Balboa Sylvester Stallone obviously decided that his best way of getting another film made was to re introduce the new cinema going public to his other well known, multi film appearing character... John Rambo. Rambo, the fourth film starring the character, is a horribly anachronistic return to the glory days of 80's action films. A time before political correctness took hold so that only the British, and occasionally other Europeans, were allowed to be the evil villains in films. The story, such as it is, involves a group of doctors and ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Rambo (DVD): Rambover the Top (796 words)

After his successful comeback to film making with Rocky Balboa two years ago, 62 year old Sylvester Stallone has followed up with another deja-vu movie. This time he has reincarnated another of his old heroes, the invincible commando John Rambo. What is more, he not only co-wrote the screenplay but also directed the film. The result is the bloodiest of the four Rambo films. I read in some magazine and also on line that some movie fans had scrupulously counted 236 dead bodies during the 91 minute movie - which works out to 2.59 corpses per minute. The 2006 Rocky Balboa - yet another sequel about the boxer in a series that earned Stallone a place in cinema ...  Read the complete review
