-------------Plot & Thoughts------------
Ramona & Beezus is a story about the Quimby family that come under financial problems when Robert Quimby loses his job. It causes lots of problems with the family but it also allows Robert to realise what he really wants in life. The main theme in the movie is how these two sisters Ramona and Beezus deal with their family problems and their personal life to.
Ramona is the younger sister who sometimes feels misunderstood because her creative ways don't always go down well with her parents or teachers and she can sometimes be thought of as a handful. As soon as Ramona finds out that she may have to move because her family needs money she goes out and starts to try and make money of her own which doesn't really go to plan on each attempt. I think Ramona carried the movie very well because she was behind almost everything that happens in the movie and she was really entertaining.
Beezus(Beatrice) is the older sister who is a straight A all round teenager. Whilst her family are going through all the financial trouble she has the sort of 'it's the end of the world' attitude which I didn't really like to be fair. Beezus's character is going through alot of general teen issues such as boys which is one of the things that causes a little tension between her and her little sister Ramona.
Together as sisters they start the movie OK with each other but as the movie goes on they start to get really annoyed with one another mainly due to Ramona's lack of consideration and thought when she does things. A significant event in the movie happens where the two of them are brought together more and have a little heart to heart which was nice to see.
The plot generally allows you to watch all the family's growth as characters and you are able to build a connection to whichever character is similar to you. For me it was Beezus simply because I could relate to some of the things she had going on at the time I watched it such as finishing school and stuff.
I do think the plot is a little predictable because there was never a moment I was in doubt about what would happen. I think this is due to this sort of thing being done so many times before that's why really. I do think on the other hand that the plot is interesting because of how well the actors have portrayed the roles. I think Joey King as Ramona was an excellent casting because she is just adorable at times and you can't help but love her.
I think overall I enjoyed the movie but I think if it wasn't for Joey King playing Ramona then it definitely would not be something for me because it was her that kept me interested for the whole film. Although initially watching it for Selena Gomez I turned out to find Selena Gomez's character of Beezus to be a little boring. There where a few a moments that made me chuckle and quite a few aww moments too. You may have to watch it a second time like I did for it to grow on you.
I would recommend this movie as a film to watch with your family as it has a little bit for everyone due to the movie being about a family and they is something for everyone in a family to relate to. The DVD is available to by on Amazon new and used from £4.69. It's nothing to run out and buy now but if you are planning a family evening watch movies soon this is a recommended movie.
