I was unaware of this gem of a movie until it turned up on cable TV. So I hadn’t read any reviews, or heard about it at all, so no preconceptions about what it was going to be about. I saw the PG certificate, and thought it was maybe a kids’ film, but knew it had a great cast, so that was fine. I can only briefly outline the plot – it really is the kind of film where if you say too much it will spoil it for anyone else. It’s set in Ireland, possibly in the 70s, if you look at the fashions and the age of the cars, but then there’s a karaoke machine, so that could put it in the 80s – actually it doesn’t really matter, ...  Read the complete review
