Based on the 1922 HP Lovecraft tale 'Herbert West- Reanimator', 'Reanimator' is the story of the eponymous Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs), a medical student who is kicked out of the Zurich University Institute of Medicine for his depraved experiments into the creation of a serum that can reanimate dead tissue, enrolling instead at Miskatonic University in the US to continue his research. West blackmails his roommate and fellow-student Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) into complicity in his research, and after bringing back to life a dead cat in the basement of their residence the two go about procuring human subjects from the local morgue. Things go from bad to worse as ... Read the complete review

THIS IS A FILM ONLY REVIEW, NO DVD EXTRAS SHOULD BE MENTIONED ANYWHERE ON THIS PAGE Re-Animator is a trashy, silly gore-fest of a horror movie, from 1985. Like most horror films, it has developed into something of a franchise, with a 1990 sequel, Bride of Re-Animator, a 2003 sequel, Beyond Re-Animator, and an upcoming sequel planned for 2008, House of Re-Animator. This one actually sounds quite good, since it will apparently star William H Macy as the President of the USA! Imagine that! Anyway, I'm reviewing the original. It tells the story of Herbert West (played by Jeffrey Combs), a medical student with some wacky ideas about the brain, who ... Read the complete review

Back in the mid-eighties when there wasnt an original horror film being released, we had Zombie ripping off Dawn of the Dead and Firday the 13th ripping off Halloween which in turn had ripped off Black Christmas. But the one film that was truely original was sadly quite overlooked, this film was Re-Animator. It was the video cover that first caught my eye when I was young in my local corner shop, even that was quite creepy with a melted face with the eyes sliding down (There cover went on to change about 5 times). But by todays standards in effects the effects in Re-animator may noy stand up too good, but they are extremely graphic imxed with a big dash of gore and ... Read the complete review

Re-Animator is a unique and classic 1980s horror film that has spawned two sequels - Bride of Re-Animator, and Beyond Re-Animator. Another sequel, entitled House of Re-Animator, is currently pending production. In a decade of staunchly routine horror films, like numerous Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Nightmare On Elm Street sequels, Re-Animator is, in fact, a re-animation of a genre long thought brainless, and more importantly, soulless. Following his removal from a famous Swiss medical University, Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs, in his iconic portrayal) arrives at an American university. He rents a room in the house of Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott), and converts it ... Read the complete review

Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) has just arrived at the hospital Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) is working at. He is their to learn even though he frequently critises his teacher, Dr Hill's (David Gale) work and thinks his theories on brain death are out of date. One night Herbert arrives at Cain's house after reading his ad for a flat mate. He more or less tells Dan he is moving in and the two live with one another. Dan girlfriend thinks Herbert is weird and one night finds Dan's dead cat in his fridge. That night Dan hears noises and discovers his cat is alive and attacking Herbert. They kill it and Herbert tells Dan he has created a serum that when injected into the ... Read the complete review
