It was lovely and surprising to hear the monologues in particular; to hear things which one had never heard before, just because Maureen Lipman adds a slightly different emphasis. Every since I was 10 years old, I have loved the work of Joyce Grenfell. Until two years ago, very little of her material was available on video or DVD and so I bought Re:Joyce with a certain expectation. On this DVD, Maureen Lipman recreates a wide variety of Joyce's monologues and songs. These are interwoven with snapshots of her all too short life. If you are looking for authentic 'Joyce' renditions then you might be disappointed as Maureen Lipman, quite rightly in my opinion, does put her own 'stamp' on the performance.
