As the story progresses Will gets more and more involved in the case and it ends up getting very serious for him on a personal level. I won't tell you any more than this as it will give things away! I loved this film! I thought it was one of the most tense thrilling films I have ever seen. There is a real dark threatening mood to the film. The performance by both Norton and Fiennes is exceptional! They really have you on the edge of your seat, eage...more

Crowned Review Red Dragon (DVD): Silence of the Hams! (976 words)
by - written on 14/11/08 (Very useful, 161 readings)
Rating:

I'm never really sure if Sir Anthony Hopkins is a brilliant actor or a right old 'chancer', his vast array of hopeless accents littering his mixed bag of movies suggesting the later. What on earth was that one in 'Fractured! As with the likes of Pacino and the always irritating and smug Kevin Spacey on screen, Hopkins basically plays himself in every movie and everyone goes wow! Well most people... I think I'm not alone in thinking the worse of Hopkins. It must be that mischievous smile of his that he too can't believe he's got this far in showbiz. I bet he's a top bloke to have a beer with though. One movie of his they did go wow for was Silence of the Lambs, ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Ho Hum (1570 words)

Rating:

Let's be clear about one thing from the outset and then you'll know instinctively what kind of movie you are going to be offered here. Red Dragon was filmed on the pretext of finishing off Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter trilogy with Anthony Hopkins in the role of Hannibal whilst in reality, anyone with half a brain will realise it was filmed because someone knew it would make an awful lot of money, nothing more. Harris' novel of the same name has in fact already been filmed some 17 years previously as "Manhunter" with Michael Mann at the helm and most who have seen that already consider it to be a very good movie. We're not talking about ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Red Dragon (DVD): Beware The Red Dragon (1588 words)
by - written on 31/12/06 (Very useful, 121 readings)
Rating:

Outing number three for one of cinema’s greatest anti-heroes is in actual fact set chronologically before the other two. Further to the phenomenal worldwide success of The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, and in the absence of anything new from Thomas Harris, Hollywood turned its attention to his first Hannibal Lecter novel, Red Dragon. Originally made into a film in 1986, the first version was actually released under the name Manhunter and was critically acclaimed long before the success of Silence of the Lambs. The new version of Red Dragon sticks fairly respectfully to the original, but has been updated in such a way to create broader appeal within modern cinema ...  Read the complete review

Red Dragon is a serial killer thriller from 2002. Although is was made after Silence Of The Lambs and Hannibal it's actually a prequel, Red Dragon was set in the 80's and follows Doctor Hannibal Lecter's arrest and incarceration. The film is rated 18 and runs for approximately 124 minutes. Brett Ratner directs the film, he's renowned for directing the Rush Hour series starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Premium Review Red Dragon (DVD): Better than I expected! (481 words)
by - written on 26/03/09 (Very useful, 139 readings)
Rating:

I first watched Silence of the Lambs many years ago, but it was only recently that I got the chance to see Red Dragon. Red Dragon is the prequel to Silence of the Lambs, and the events in it occurred before Silence of the Lambs chronologically, but it was actually made and released afterwards, in 2002. It is based on the book by Thomas Harris and is a remake of the 1986 film Manhunter. The story involved Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins for the third time after Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, but the plot does not focus on him as much as the other films. The main story centres on Agent Will Graham (Edward Norton), the agent who originally caught ...  Read the complete review
