Advantages: Funny Episodes, Good Plots, New Sides to Cat and Kryten

Disadvantages: Not Too Many Extras as on Other RD DVDs

The sixth series in the Red Dwarf series is available on DVD for £20 or £15 from Amazon. This isn't a must-see series I don't think though it is one of the fun ones. I think they're all good from series 4 onwards anyway! Again this is two discs with six episodes and special extras spread across them.

Episodes are:

1. Psirens
2. Legion
3. Gunmen of the Apocalypse
4. Emohawk
5. Rimmerworld
6. Out of Time

The first episode worth talking about on here is 'Legion' I think as it used to be one of my favourites. I say used to be because my son ruined it for me after he pointed out a major smeg-up on there that they haven't cut! When Lister is pouring himself a glass of orange juice, you can see that he realises the glass is too full to do it and he chucks a load back in the jug, while still in camera shot, then proceeds to pour more out again! It's really stupid and annoys me every time I watch this now. Other than that though, the concept of the plot is really good with the crew encountering a really bizarre genius host who doesn't want them to leave. The main storyline revolves around the crew figuring out who and what Legion is and how to escape him.

I also really like 'Rimmerworld' on this DVD because Rimmer shoots himself in the foot again and lots goes on. The episode starts out with Rimmer thinking he's being smart and stealing an escape pod while the rest of the crew are left in danger. They escape of course, the only problem is - they can't get Rimmer back. He's accelerating away from Star Bug too fast. In the end he goes through a time-hole and the crew track him down hundreds of years later in Rimmer's time but a few weeks for them. They find that Rimmer has populated the whole world with clones of himself! It's a total nightmare and really funny to watch with loads of great little gags throughout.

The characters, props and special effects on here are still amateur by modern standards to an extent but not to the point of being distracting. They're a far cry from the first series still! The characters really have shape in this series thanks to all they've been through in the first five series. I think Kryten and the Cat really stand out in this series in particular with the show being based more on the crew as a whole than just Rimmer and Lister with the others as back-up characters.

There aren't so many extras on this DVD as there are on the other ones. They're all a decent length though so you definitely get your money's worth. There's an interesting bit on special effects on this one that's not as good as the one on series 5 but worth watching nevertheless. There's a brilliant behind the scenes bit on here too as well as the usual deleted scenes and smeg-ups. Another five star DVD.

Summary: Okay, Four and a Half Stars Really - But Still Good!
