... But there is nothing new. He's not overly confrontational (like I would be), although some people do get a bit riled up when he criticises them. I think this is a good take on religion, and it seems that even at the end - Bill Maher got a pretty good holiday from it. Israel to Italy to England to the USA again - pretty cool job, huh? To describe Maher, he's perhaps a slightly more calm and less eloquent Richard Dawkins. But this isn't a slight on him as there is some decent things unearther in this documentary, esp...more

Premium Review Religulous (DVD): Good, but nothing new really. (166 words)

I always think that sometimes these types of documentary are unneccessary as they do very little new. I mean, this film could effectively be a documentary on channel four. Bill Maher does his best to try and establish why people follow religion and the contradictions behind it. But there is nothing new. He's not overly confrontational (like I would be), although some people do get a bit riled up when he criticises them. Premium Review Maher is hilarious (268 words)

Rating:

After the success of his film Borat, as well as his work on the famed HBO show Curb Your Enthusiasm, director Larry Charles has taken it one step further, bringing comedian Bill Maher with him to examine and ultimately satirise organized religion and religious belief. Atheists who don't take religion seriously (such as myself), will probably find this to be a laugh riot. It's also, ultimately, a pretty scary statement about the power of somethng that has no quantifiable proof, and Maher cements this with his typically ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Religulous (DVD): Atheism, again! (1307 words)
by - written on 21/04/09 (Very useful, 93 readings)
Rating:

Religulous [DVD] I used to appreciate what atheists stand for because I saw them as thinkers who were born in a family that believes in a certain religion and then decided to go against everything they were brought up to believe in. It is definitely not an easy step, I thought, you must be one of those who question things to end up being an atheist. But things changed. Those atheists who used to be peaceful thinkers started to demand that everybody else should leave their religion since it is harmful to believe in an illusion as they claim. Now, I am a Christian who thinks that discussing religion is a very healthy thing and I do like to watch ...  Read the complete review
