The film takes place as a number of Allied POWs are held in a Japanese prison camp during the Second World War. First up, I'll confess: I've never seen Bridge Over The River Kwai. I understand that it is based on a true story, and the introduction to this film, although not strictly a sequel, more like an offshoot, indicates that it, too, is based on true events. However, I found the film to be below par on many fronts throughout, whether it be the acting, the direction or the camera work. Something about the film just doesn't ring true, the passion and emotion displayed by the cast almost laughable, the suspenseful music even more so. I received this DVD free with a Sunday newspaper.
