Set in the mid 50's they are a married couple with two children on the surface evertything looks fine however they do not have it all plain sailing and after a series of arguments they decide to start a new life in Paris. The whole feel of this film is one of uninspired meciocracy, the acting is average, the script is positively pedestrain and there are no lighter moments to lift the pervading mood of du...more

Crowned Review Revolutionary Road (DVD): Desperate housewives fifties style (742 words)
by - written on 03/02/09 (Very useful, 194 readings)
Rating:

Revolutionary Road is set in the 1950's in the leafy suburbs of Connecticut. April (Kate Winslet) and Frank Wheeler (Leonardo DiCaprio) are a couple who see themselves as different to their conventional neighbours. They have high ideals that they feel sets them apart. April wants to be an actress and has studied at drama school. Frank works in the city in a job that bores him. He's a bit of an idler really, who dreams of doing something more ambitious than his own father, who worked for the same company, but hasn't figured out what he wants to do about it. However, after seven years of marriage, and two children, they realize that their lives have become ...  Read the complete review

Film Only ~~~~~~ Sam Mendes' new film, Revolutionary Road, drops us into the lives of Mr and Mrs Wheeler (Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet). April and Frank live a happy and peaceful existence. They have two delightful children, a pretty house with bright red shutters and convivial neighbours. Are our happy couple - happy? I fear not. They are bored with the predictability of their daily routines so to relieve this boredom they decide to move to Paris for 'something new to do.' The gorgeous Mrs Wheeler will find a job working for the American Embassy while dreamy Mr Wheeler will stay at home, read a few novels, write and think about what to do with the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Revolutionary Road (DVD): Revolutionary Dull! (837 words)
by - written on 02/12/09 (Very useful, 25 readings)

I was a bit bored last night so I decided to borrow a film from my Moms and give it a go. I picked Revolutionary Road to try so I sat down with a blanket over me as I'm a bit ill, my cats either side of me asleep and I had some chocolate and a drink so was ready for it. What I found was that it was a good film but just so slow to watch and after half hour I was almost about to give up on it completely. Well I kept going till the end and my 2 stars say it all. Good but a bit slow and here is why. This film follows the lives of Frank and April. It is 1955 and they have been married for years and have a couple of children. From the outside looking in, they ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A Horror Film... (424 words)
by - written on 26/07/09 (Very useful, 13 readings)
Rating:

Three words will reverberate around your cluttered conscience upon viewing REVOLUTIONARY ROAD; hopeless, emptiness and interesting. The later is the fake label placed upon suburban life in 50's America to conceal the reality of the formers; a spoken charade - a lie which all live in, but none are willing to confront. The film's (purposely) mundane social events are hyped as 'interesting' by these characters; Frank's (Leonardo DiCaprio) explanation of how to market a new computer being the final 'interesting' point of Apirl's (Kate Winslet) insanity. Even un-extraordinary characters are described as 'interesting' when they are in fact scared, indecisive, pathetic men. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Revolutionary Road (DVD): More Melodrama than Drama (442 words)

'How do you break free without breaking apart?' Those who watched the recent glut of award ceremonies recently couldn't have helped seeing Kate Winslet's blubbing performances as she accepted her prizes for this film. It's certainly apparent to see why she won, as her characterisation of the bored American housewife is excellent. Not a huge amount happens in the film, but it is certainly engrossing and interesting. The film begins with a flashback showing the bright bubbly young buck DiCaprio meeting Winslet at a New York party. The couple eventually marry and settle down in the suburbs. While DiCaprio commutes to the city, Winslet attempts to fit ...  Read the complete review
