Advantages: Some amusing bits
Disadvantages: Most of it is rehashed; Very rude and made me cringe sometimes
I love Ricky Gervaise doing stand up, I was never mad keen on The Office but he's always been proper funny when it's just him on a stage telling his rambling and proper funny jokes and stories. I loved Animals so when I saw Fame was on TV last night I thought I'd wait up and watch it even though I wanted an early night.
I wish I hadn't bothered afterwards as the show was a long way from his best. A lot of his anecdotes he's said before and there wasn't that much new material once you've took all the older jokes out, it's all well put together and runs smooth but a lot of it just isn't funny.
He's got a mad dig on fat people in this show and is sooooo rude, not even in a very funny way but the way he talks made me squirm a bit even though I was on my own! He keeps making c**k jokes and I know we all laugh at a good c**k joke but jeeeez, Ricky was madly crude in a lot of these jokes and they made me blush even though not a lot embarresses me!
I think he's very up himself just lately as well as this come through in his personality in Fame, it wasn't just the "6 Baftas" comments but he does come across as loving himself too much and it got proper irritating for me after a bit. The show was filmed at the Royal Albert Hall and this meant a few jokes at the start about Adolf Hitler, they were funny at first but he repeated them again and again over the space of about 3 minutes and in the finish I couldn't wait for him to shut up about it.
There's a section he does about ME and another one about AIDS that I think were very insensitive, I don't know but Ricky tries too hard to be edgy and raw sometimes and he goes too near to the knuckle. At the minute he's still loved but you can see especially during Fame that he's treading a fine line between what's funny and I reckon he'll over do himself one day, he makes a point of declaring himself non racist but one day I can see him coming under fire from one of the disability charities because he's very uncaring a lot of the time.
I hope he gets back to his best for his next tour because it was horrible watching such a funny man make such an unfunny show. Parts of it had me giggling but not as much as other tours I've seen, I'd like to see him get back to the cheerful down to earth comic he was before Hollywood got hold of him.
