Much criticism has been made and levelled at Righteous Kill, a film featuring two of the greatest iconic actors the past 50 or so years of cinema has seen, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. The parts they played in the Godfather trilogy and subsequent mafia-related films, De Niro branching out in one direction, Pacino in another, have been hailed as nothing short of superb. Many who have spent the best part of their lives saying how good these are feel that they have been let down by their collaboration in Righteous Kill. But just how righteous is their condemnation? What we have here is a lot of hype surrounding what is essentially a pretty good crime thriller. ... Read the complete review

Being a great lover of both Robert Deniro and Al Pancino I chose to ignore the reviews i had read of this film and dive right in, buying the Blu Ray version, which i usually only reserve for films I know for sure are going to be amazing (because of their current price compared to DVD). Generally speaking, I find film Critics and my tastes aren't the same. However, they were completely right about this film. It was a bit of a let down. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible. The stroy was good, Deniro and Pacino acted well (who would expect otherwise) but the plot and final twist was plainly obvious from the start. Horribly so. It was rather a disappointment. ... Being a member of lovefilm I get the bonus of watching films I would not typically choose. After this came through the post I wondered why on earth they had sent it to me, as I knew I hadn't added it to my list, but my husband soon pointed out that he had. So, on Wednesday night after a hard day at work, I sit down after tea and ask my husband 'what are we watching tonight?', 'football' he replies. Mmmm I think not! So off I toddle to watch the DVD (which I haven't chosen!), mightily miffed off! Unfortunately for this film, I was in a bit of a huff, although I will try and be fair in my review! So what's it about? Two old men, running around while trying to ... Read the complete review

Prior to the release of Righteous Kill, Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino had never appeared together on screen, aside from a brief scene in Heat. They've apparently wanted to work together for many decades, but logistics and other planning simply meant that it never happened. Well, they're finally together, in a murky thriller that's not really worth much aside from the presences of the two lead stars, who frankly, perform well, but nothing more. What could have been a STELLAR thriller with the pairing we've always wanted is a mostly toothless little film that's directed by the man who directed Pacino in his worst film, 88 Minutes, and Righteous Kill honestly isn't ... Take two acting icons and throw in a great script, great directing and you get Michael Mann's Heat. Take two acting icons, throw in a tired clichéd script and ho hum direction and you have Righteous Kill. Pacino and De Niro get back together, no doubt attracted by a modest payday to play a couple of NYC detectives. The film starts with a taped confession from 'Turk' (De Niro), confessing Taxi Driver style to a series of murders, all the victims being criminal perpetrators who somehow got off. Then during the course of the film we see as Turk and his partner Rooster (Pacino) investigate the killer and get their case crossed with a case run by two other ... Read the complete review
