Film Only Review:
Meet Dalton (Patrick Swazye) he is a bouncer (the American term seems to be a cooler) and he goes to bars called Road Houses to sort them out and move on so they don't have to close down and can start making money. hes one of the best in the business and his reputation goes way before him which is why he is head hunted by the owner of the Double deuce a bar in Mississippi, Jasper that desperately needs his help as the bar is being terrorised, there's drugs and all sorts going on let alone the fights. Dalton agrees to the job on his terms, with a very good salarie included and off he goes to Jasper.
He gets at first a frosty welcome at first, the band has to perform behind steel nets and every other minute a knife comes out and blood spurts all over the place. The staff are rubbish, taking from the tills, having sex with people when they should be working in the storeroom and at first Dalton stands by and watches in his cool and handsome way (yes I had to put them in as Patrick is so cute and charismatic in this role) and literally soaks it all up.
He starts to, in his quiet polite manner get rid of the bad apple staff and teaches the ones that stay all about manners, being polite and how to handle the situations that arise in the bar better however it soon becomes apparent to Dalton that behind the trouble at the bar and for local businesses one man is behind it all.....Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara) with the help of his henchmen.
In the meantime Dalton gets wounded whilst working and usually being able to fix himself back up again with the help of a needle and thread he realises he can't and goes to hospital where he meets Elizabeth (Doc) who is of course a Doctor with a staple gun who is of course not impressed with his line of work but soon comes to see Dalton isn't 'just'a bouncer/cooler and a relationship between the two progresses.
However Dalton doesn't tend to stay in one place too long and can he take out the baddies to clean up Jasper or will this be the one bar he can't 'fix'?
Being an 80's film this is really rather dated now, slow in places and the special effects and music are not really all that great at all. The cast, apart from the mighty Patrick Swazye I had never heard of at all apart from Sam Ellliot who played Wade, Daltons friend/mentor who is the best in the business and goes to help him out and the Doctor who played Elizabeth apart from being rather stunning was the worst actor in the movie in my opinion!
However although the story dragged a bit at times the blood and guts and fights pepped it up a bit and although I can't say it is my favourite film ever I willed Dalton to win through and couldn't wait to see if he did and what next type of thing!
Its an 18 movie and so it should be and runs 114 minutes!

Summary: A good enough movie!
