Advantages: Great Animation, Good Story, Kids will love it

I watched this movie with my kids a few days ago and we enjoyed it thoroughly. My kids wanted to see it again and again and they’re not easily taken in. I took my little ones to see “A Monkey’s Tale” last year and we were all bored stiff unlike “El Dorado” which was a joy from start to finish and kept us all amused.

Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline voice the two main characters and the interplay between the two of them is quite funny. The rest of the cast is made up of bad guys, a girl who can looks after number one (Rosie Perez) and funny animals (I particularly liked the Horse). Elton John provides the soundtrack and if you like Elton, you’ll probably enjoy the songs. I wasn’t pushed either way.

I have one small observation to make. Parts of the story are similar to a John Huston movie made back in the 70’s called “The Man Who Would Be King” which starred Sean Connery and Michael Caine as two adventurers who set and to make their fortune and end up in a remote corner of the world and are proclaimed as Gods. Their sole aim is to gather as much gold as possible, make their way back to the real world and live a life of luxury for the rest of their lives. I won’t give away anymore of the story as to do this, I would be giving away some of the plot of El Dorado.
This movie was based on a story by Rudyard Kipling and unless I’m very mistaken, there is no reference to him in the credits for El Dorado.
