Robin Hood is one of the original Disney Classics series. Released in 1973, it tells the traditional and familiar tale that has been made into many films about Robin Hood, a bandit living in Sherwood Forest in Nottingham, who robs from the rich and gives it to the poor. Most children grow up knowing this tale, and as a child I certainly watched this version of the story when it was televised. However, I never really took to it as a story as it lacks some of the appeal that other Disney films have, and I feel it has more appeal to young boys. I recently picked up a copy of the film on DVD for my children for Christmas. I picked it as I was trying to make up 4 ... Read the complete review

First of all, I'm not quite sure why some of the dooyoo reviewers for this DVD have seemed to have got it mixed up with the BBC Saturday night TV show of the same name. The picture above gives it away right? Lots of Disney animals and no sign of Keith Allen anywhere! This Disney film is an underrated gem. It was released in 1973, and I must admit, it does have a bit of a 70's feel about it. It was directed and produced by Disney stalwart Wolfgang "woolie" Reitherman, and certainly retains the feel of other Disney classics, such as Jungle book and the Aristocats. The score is by the legendary George Bruns, who did the music for Jungle book, as ... Read the complete review

This is the animated version of Robin Hood, and I am not ashamed to say I got rather excited when this got released on DVD, having owned the VHS copy for years and being unable to watch it as I had no video player! The story is all about the journey of Robin Hood and how he literately robs the rich to feed the poor. Robin is featured a as fox in this film which suits his character quite well as foxes are clever and cunning, and they also pinch things! So being a fox was quite fitting for him. The love of his life Maid Marion is obviously also a fox, again a great resemblance and foxes are a beautiful creature and she is very ... Read the complete review

Robin's hood Introduction ----------------- The BBC for all its faults occasionally manages to produce wonderful historical dramas, however apart from bodice rippers the cupboard has been extremely bare this past decade with only the excellent "Rome" standing out, the lion's share of which was paid by HBO anyway and the first few episodes shown on TV horribly butchered by the Beeb. ITV has taken the mantle away from auntie with "Hornblower", "Sharpe" and (going back a few years) "Cadfael". I was hoping that the latest adaptation of "Robin Hood" would raise the bar once more, after ... Read the complete review

And now i have my Disney head on. Robin Hood is one of my many favourite Disney films. Namely because many moons ago instead of the traditional primary school nativity my year five teacher decided that we'd do our own version of Robin Hood- where we changed a few bits mainly to accommodate our rather large year group. For example, i played Lady Trinny of Woodall and was a fashion critic in the King's court. One of my lines, which always sticks in my head for some wild reason whenever i do go see a Panto, was " Tights are so last season darling." To Robin Hood. Undoubtedly we had to watch Robin hood 'to get a sense if the story' which i now know ... Read the complete review
