He is obviously determined to win it back and joins forces with the merry men of Sherwood Forest. Together they decide to combine and steal his riches and give to the poor and in the process going down in folklore and the stuff of legends. I really enjoyed this comedy version of Robin Hood and there were some very funny moments throughout. Anyone w...more

Robin Hood - Men In Tights (DVD): "Men In Tights" What Could Be Funnier Than That (810 words)

This is a Mel brooks classic film in my opinion. it was funny from start to finish, it's not "The Princess Bride" Funny but it is funny nonetheless, Robin Hood Men In Tights is more Slap stick funny rather than clever funny. I think you have to know the story of robin hood to really get some of the jokes, like when they are in prison and the bars are set wide apart, you always wonder why they don't just squeeze through them, well in this movie they set the bars stupidly apart so that a person can walk through the gap with your body square square to the front, thats just one example. this film is a very pantomime style film because there is ...  Read the complete review

note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room Although Mel Brooks best film is without a doubt in my mind Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights is one of my favourites also, despite sadly not finding much of an audience upon release. It is a parody of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, taking potshots at the absurdities of the plot without a grain of subtlety. The film opens as Robin Of Loxley (Cary Elwes) and imprisoned in Jerusalem, when he is asked by an old man to find his son, Ahchoo (Dave Chappelle, who makes his first performance here). Robin escapes and agrees, returning to England to find that Prince John (Richard Lewis) now has a ...  Read the complete review

Robin Hood - Men In Tights (DVD): The Legend Had It Coming (629 words)
by - written on 07/10/08 (Very useful, 119 readings)
Rating:

Robin Hood Men In Tights is a fantastic satirical look at the legend of Robin Hood. The film was directed by Mel Brooks who also directed Blazing Saddles and was released in 1993. Now the traditional story of Robin Hood tells us how whilst King Richard is away fighting the crusades evil Prince John starts controlling the country and making the lives of everyday people hell. Robin Hood thereby comes to the rescue of the ordinary person. He steals from the tax collectors, wins archery contests, defeats the sheriff and finally rescues the beautiful Maid Marian. Robin Hood Men In Tights however gives a whole new take on this age-old legend. Here Mel ...  Read the complete review

We're men, we're men in tights! Tight tights! (236 words)

Robin Hood: Men in Tights was one of my favourite films when I was a youngster and I've recently had the pleasure of watching it again... and it's just as good as I remember! Men in Tights follows the tried and tested Robin Hood storyline, but with a slapstick comedy twist - much like Airplane and Hot Shots! Cary Elwes plays Robin Hood who returns to England to overthrow Prince John and his oppressive regime. Along the way he gains friends in Ahchoo (Dave Chapelle), Blinkin and Little John. Together they create Robin Hood's band of merry men. The film includes many slapstick comedy moments (such as items bumping into cameras and the crew ...  Read the complete review

Robin Hood - Men In Tights (DVD): Say Goodbye To Your Sanity (457 words)

When you mention the name Robin Hood: Men In Tights to anyone, many of them will say how much they hated the film, but I think it’s okay. The premise for the film is very similar to the Robin Hood legend. Robin of Loxley (Cary Elwes) falls in love with Maid Marian (Amy Yasbeck), to the great dislike of The sheriff of Rottingham (Roger Rees) who has his eye of the beautiful Maid. In the end Robin seeks the help of his merry men (who include the likes of Ahchoo, Will Scarlet O’Hara and Little John.) The group seek out townsfolk to help them with their battle to win Maid Marian’s heart and to defeat Prince john (Richard Lewis) and The ...  Read the complete review
