Advantages: Classic charcters with a great script and cast

Disadvantages: The story can often move quickly with a lot of characters to identify

After the disappointment of Revolver, I was unsure what to make of Rocknrolla. I loved Lock Stock and Snatch but felt Ritchie may have lost the plot with Revolver. But I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed the film.

It features a small time group of criminals lead by Gerard Butler, "old-school" London gangster Tom Wilkinson and corrupt accountant Thandie Newton. Feed into that Russian millionaires, club owners and drug infused rock stars! Each individual requires something different but they are all linked in a certain way (as if often the case eg.Lock Stock and Snatch!).

We all know that Ritchie's films are never going to be Oscar winners, but that doesn't mean there isn't a place for them. You can expect the same crazy characters and killer script as usual, and moments of hilarity mixed with dark scenes of violence. It has a great cast, with Toby Kebbell a standout. Mark Strong, Wilkinson and Butler also have some great dialogue and play their parts well. The soundtrack is brilliant, like always! It is also nice to see Ritchie paint a different side to London from the usual seedy side to a more affluent emerging city. He uses expensive looking sets like Wembley and shows London as a leading city of the world (similar to Layercake).

Overall I would recommend this to fans of Lock Stock etc. that may have been turned away by the failure of Revolver. It is Ritchie almost back at his best!

Summary: A definate watch for fans of the Lock Stock/Snatch era!

Loved this review and never realised Handsome Bob was played by Tom Hardy until I watched 'The Take', thanks.
