Rocky Balboa (DVD) ... MGM Entertainment / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, PAL / The sixth installment of the Rocky series picks up the story of the Italian Stallion 16 years after the morose Rocky V. And sure, at his advanced age, Sylvester Stallone now looks like one of those sides of beef his character used to pound on. No matter. Somehow you buy the premise after all these years, even if it takes forever for Rocky Balboa to stop wallowing in self-pity (Adrian is dead, his old haunts are demolished) and get down to the business of drinking raw eggs and running up staircases. The business at hand is an unlikely exhibition fight with champeen Mason Dixon (Antonio Tarver), which the near-sexagenarian Mr. Balboa has no business accepting. Of course, just as sure as the horns of Bill Conti's theme music are even now trumpeting through your head, the ol' Rock might have a punch or two left in him. Stallone wrote and directed, and there isn't much to say except that the movie steps in its pre-determined paces with a canny sense of what has come before (it's practically an homage to all the previous Rocky pictures, complete with fleeting flashbacks). Burt Young is around again, and Geraldine Hughes makes an appealing, rather chaste female companion for Rocky. Stallone's Rocky has gotten suspiciously articulate over the years, but he still knows how to slouch. If Stallone never forgets that, he can probably keep the franchise rolling. --Robert Horton

When Rocky decided to fight again he was only thinking small,a couple of local fights was what he had in mind but once the money hungry agents found out they went to work setting up a exhibition fight between the new Heavyweight Champion Mason Dixon(Antonio Tarver)and the old timer Rocky Balboa. Rocky Balboa (DVD): It's Not Over 'til it's Over! (163 words)

I was a bit worried about watching this film as I'd heard there was no Adrian and also because it's so far on from the last Rocky I wasn't sure how they were going to pull this off! Much to my surprise this film was excellent with a great story and an even better ending! Rocky is trying to have a normal life and owns a restaurant where he entertains his guests with stories of his past fights. One night in the restaurant on the tv a computer simulated fight between Rocky and the current heavy weight champion of the world is shown and this encourages Rocky to get back into the ring. Stallone is truly excellent in this film and gives a very memorable last ...  Read the complete review

I know what youre thinking. Another great Rocky film to add to my collection. The horrible truth however is that it is not any where near the quality which we have come to expect from the Rock series. I myself am a firm lover of the Rocky series. I could honestly watch them time and time and time again. However it is a worthy effort however the quality of everthing in the film unfortunately fall well behind the bar. We all know though what to expect from a Rocky film and if you dont you must have being living under a rock all of your life. Seriously! You can expect a deep message such as love or sadness being portrayed and on the opposite hard bravery and bare ...  Read the complete review

I have always been a big fan of the Rocky franchise, much to my late husbands amusement, so when Rocky Balboa was released on DVD I immediately bought myself a copy. Rocky Balboa is the sixth film in the Rocky series, and I think it would be helpful to watch at least one or two of the previous films as this is very much a trip down memory lane. There are lots of flashbacks throughout the film and because Rockys beloved wife Adrian has died, places which were important in their volatile but loving relationship are featured quite heavily. Having said this, Rocky Balboa is a wonderful stand alone film it's just that if you haven't seen previous ...  Read the complete review

(Film only review) As an avid football fan that has recently moved to Berkshire I was intrigued when I saw that Everton versus Reading would be live of Sky TV. I was ready to see if the Royals could put the Toffee Men to the sword when a surreal thing occurred. A man appeared on the pitch adjourned in an EFC outfit holding his hands high as the crowd screamed his name. Who was this mysterious man? Was he a new evertonian striker bought to replace the potato headed wizard Wayne Rooney? No, he was far too old. I seem to recognise him from somewhere as if he were popular during the 80s but had since spent a little time under the surgeon’s knife. It turns ...  Read the complete review
