"His whole life was a million to one shot" I have never met anybody that hasn't heard of Rocky. if they hadn't heard if him, I probably wouldn't give them the time of day! Written by and starring Sylvestre Stallone, the film tells the tale of Rocky Balboa, a washed-up Philadelphia boxer who barely scrapes by, fighting in small clubs and moonlighting as a debt collecting loan shark. The suprisingly lovable Rockys main ambition is to win the heart of the timid Adrian (Talia Shire), sister to the sluggers best friend Paulie (Bert Young). The opportunity of a lifetime knocks for Balboa when The world heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed (Carl ... Read the complete review

Think of Stallone and what character springs to your mind first? For most people I guess, it is probably the down and out fighter with the wonky eye and the slurred speech. Why? Well Rocky symbolises the little man that takes life's punches on the chin and refuses to be beaten. You can't help but admire the spirit in which he takes on the world. Stallone will never be classed as the greatest actor that ... Read the complete review

Do you really know Rocky? It is highly unlikely that you will have not have heard of the film, but what is your impression of the original film? I think it is important to ask this question to a reader of this review who is pondering whether or not to add Rocky to their film collection. Although I am an admirer of, for various different reasons, its five sequels, I feel it is important to think of the original Rocky movie as a picture by itself. Years later and Sylvester Stallone, the almost actor equivalent of the "no-hope" slugger Rocky Balboa, would be a fool not to admire the Rocky franchise he chose to continue, but even he is careful to speak ...
