Rocky II contines the story of the Philadelphia heavyweught Rocky Balboa played by Sylvester Stallone. A common historical error is to look back at events with the benefit of hindsight. It is hard today not to look at Rocky as an inevitable franchise. However, this wasn't so obvious with Rocky. For a start it was three years for the sequel's release indicating no serious plans for the story to continue. Furthermore, the first film ends with a strong sense of finality. As the bell rings an almost demolished Apollo Creed tells his "no hope" challenger, that there "Ain't going to be no rematch". To which Rocky replies "Don't want none" before screaming for the most important thing in his life, his soul mate girlfriend, Adrian. Rocky ... Read the complete review

Well I think something is wrong as we watched Rocky 1 and then Rocky 3 and now we are back to Rocky 2. It really is a good job I have seen these film several times before so I can follow them and not mind the order we are watching them in. At the start of this film we see the fight which was the ending for the first film when Rocky takes the fight with Apollo creed to the last round and is defeated by a split decision from the judges. Rocky is happy with the outcome and now just wants to get on with his life. He spend time in hospital and when he comes out he and Adrian get married. Soon Rocky is struggling for work and after buying a new house and car he ... Read the complete review

Sylvester Stallone stunned many with his sudden underdog appearance in Rocky (1976), delivering a script that packed an emotional punch and used its protagonist's battle inside the ring to foreground his personal struggles outside the ring also, both with his girlfriend Adrian (Talia Shire), and also in growing up in working class Philadelphia. With the film's meteoric success both critically and financially (it won Best Picture at the Oscars, admittedly undeservedly when faced with the other contenders, such as Network, All the President's Men and Taxi Driver), it was no surprise that a sequel soon surfaced, Rocky II. Astoundingly, though, Stallone has not ... Read the complete review
