Advantages: It is Rocky
Disadvantages: No emotion and poor fight sequences
Quite simply put, this is the Rocky film that should never have been made.
Following on from this stunning win in the last movie against Russian monster Ivan Drago, Rocky has retired and is very happy in that position. One day, a young boxer called Tommy Gunn decides her needs a trainer to take his game to the next level and targets Rocky as his man.
Obviously I won't reveal the plot in this review, but what ensues is a tale of trust and treachery that is not really what the Rocky series is all about. There is no real emotion in the movie and the fight sequences are poor compared to what we have become accustomed to in Rocky I - IV.
The reasons behind the end fight are OK, but I always have a problem with how it was done and, if Rocky really did need to do what he did, why he did not cash in on it.
The film lacks any of the Rocky passion and for me is the worst of the series by a country mile. True Rocky fans may be OK with it purely because it is Rocky, but film loves will hate it.
Summary: The series should have ended with Rocky IV.

- 29/01/09 I love the Rocky films, this was the worst of them all though. |

- 29/01/09 This was one Rocky too far, but he then took it even further in Rocky Balboa, although that was a slightly better film. |
