This drama/documentary of the life of Nick Leeson is a compelling film from start to finish. Most of us remember the drama when Barings Bank collapsed with loses of hundreds of millions of pounds. At the time it was difficult to understand how the oldest merchant bank in the world could have got itself into a position when one man could break the bank. This film is based on Leeson’s autobiography and paints a very sympathetic view of what is portrayed as a very unlucky man. Obviously we don’t know all the facts behind the story, and probably the only person who really knows everything is Nick Leeson himself. Ewan McGregor plays the ... Read the complete review

Everyone's heard of Nick Leeson...well this is his story. Imagine the scene....It's 1995, Nick Leeson is working in the back office for Barings, and eventually gets sent to Singapore to manage the trading floor. There he looses a big customer for Barings, and due to the loss he gains, he gambles on the market going up. Yes...you guessed it...it went down and down until the loss couldn't be covered up any more. Ewan McGregor stars with Anna Friel. For anyone interested in finance/stocks/shares this is a brilliant film to watch. For people that have little or no understanding of markets, this will be a film that will ... This film is based upon the life of Nick Leeson who in the 1990's managed to bring down a major British bank due to his stock market actiities while he worked for them. This was something I was vaguely aware of at the time but did not follow in the news however there have been similar episodes since with traders losing large amounts by bending the rules, indeed a French bank I think got into financial trouble a while back. The georgous Ewan McGregor starred as Leeson and it follows th story of him meeting and marrying his wife and then moving to Singapore where trading in futures he initially makes loads of money but then as things go wrong he takes more and ... To be honest I rented this movie because I?m bit of a Ewan McGregor fan. Lie!! I?m a Ewan McGregor fanatic. And although he shines in this film it is the true story of Nick Leeson that makes it worth watching. This film is a true story of how Nick Leeson ruined the large firm of Barings Bank. First I?ll tell you a little about the plot; the story follows cheeky, risk-taker Nick Leeson on his journey from an office clerk in London to a high-paid trader in Singapore. He meets his perfect woman and they are happily married and each day he makes deals which bring in a lot of money. But somehow its just too perfect. Leeson begins to take risks to win back ...
