It is quite strange how we came to watch this film as we watched a music video on a TV show quite some time ago and I was socked to see Danny DeVito and Michael Douglas singing and dancing along in it only to be told by hubby that this is the film which it was from. Since then I have been looking out fir the film as hubby was shocked that I had never see it. To my surprise it was on one of the older movie channel ion sky recently so we recorded it and finally got around to watching it. As I have said this film was on the TV so it is a FILM ONLY review. Joan Wilder is a romance novelist and she wishes that she could have some excitement n her life ... Read the complete review

In Romancing the Stone, Kathleen Turner plays Joan Wilder, an author of trashy (but hugely successful) romance novels. Her life is turned upside down, however, when her sister is kidnapped while in Columbia, and she sets off to rescue her. The thing is, just before leaving England, she receives a map that her sister sent her… When in Columbia she meets rugged adventurer Jack T. Colton (Michael Douglas), who – somewhat unwillingly, it has to be said – decides to help her. Can they rescue Joan’s sister from the ruthless bad guy and his incompetent goons (including Danny DeVito)? Will they find whatever treasure the map is leading to? Will they fall in love? ... Good old Dimply Chin - Michael Douglas - in the BG (Before Gecko) Days was pretty messy and uncultured and appeared in a lot of films like this, with his worryingly floppy hair and Action Man Persona. He was always a real chip off the old block (or old man's chin), effectively carrying on the sort of role made popular by Daddy (Kirk in things like Spartacus and The Scarlet Pirate). Kathleen Turner teamed up with Dimply Chin in Romancing The Stone, and proved to have such blindingly wonderful chemistry when together on the screen that they ran to a follow up (Jewel Of The Nile) and an even better departure (War Of The Roses). The Dynamic Duo and ... Read the complete review

Romancing The Stone is a 1980's movie that was clearly inspired by Indiana Jones, and during the movie there are a number of scenes that were inspired by the Raiders Of The Lost Ark Concept. Regardless, Romancing is still one of the best adventure movies around. Also,Romancing does not seem overshadowed by the superior Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and is great fun in it's own way. Story A popular adventure/romance novelest by the name of Jane Wilder(Katleen turner) is looking for the man of her dreams who she descibes in her many novels. After she recieves a mysterious map in the mail, her sister calls from Colombia, ... Read the complete review

Romancing The Stone is a movie which is usually compared unfavourably and unfairly to the Indianah Jones series. I say unfairly because in its own right this movie is enormous fun and a joy to watch, whilst it doesn't quite meet the standards of the Indie films and therefore comes in for quite some criticism. Personally I would prefer to take the movie on its own merits rather than comparing it to a work of brilliance and then pulling it to pieces it doesn't match up to it fully. Taken on its own merits it is a superb movie in its own rights, a wonderful adventure story which comes right out of a piece of pulp romance fiction writing which is exactly what one of ...
