Advantages: Be prepared to be taken on an emotional rollercoaster ride.
Disadvantages: You may want to ditch your lover and find true love!
I have to say that the thought of a Shakespeare drama masquerading in the form of a blockbuster movie with primadonna Hollywood starlets desperately trying to mimic this passionate yet naive courtship made me roll my eyes in absolute horror. Then I heard they had decided to portray the drama in modern times yet keep to the exact script, I howled with laughter and said to myself...'this I have got to see!' It was the most breath taking movie I had ever seen. I almost choked on my popcorn. Clare Danes was the epitomy of the angelical Juliet, innocent but driven by her passion, naive but driven to decieve the morals of her strict father by her desire for Romeo. Who could blame her? Who could resist the sexy charms of Leonardo de Caprio who evoked emotions in me I had never felt before. Together they managed to depict a love that deep down everyone hopes they will find if only for one glorious moment. I laughed, I cried, I laughed, I felt the purest anger and at the end felt my heart break into a thousand pieces as fate destined those starcrossed lovers the cruelest of endings. Fan-bloody-tastic! This film amazingly inspired me to go to the book store and buy the original version and read it. Admittedly I am a fan of Shakespeare but I have never been struck down by an urge to buy his books and absorb the words to remember the images that had been given to me in this movie. I urge you to buy the DVD/Video and I defy any one to fall asleep during this epic drama. I should add there is one disadvantage of watching this movie and that is if you are in a relationship try not to compare yours to theirs you may feel disillusioned that life has thrown you into an emotionless void. I have known a girlfriend to end her relationship because she felt she had been missing out on true love! She's still single!!

- 11/03/01 I agree, I am a big Shakespeare fan, but thought that a modern version would just absolutely kill of the original! How wrong I was! A brilliant movie, and a great review :)
