The film is based on a Bret Easton-Ellis film and is billed as an unrelated sequel to American Psycho. The film centres on Sean Bateman (James Van Der Beek), brother of Patrick, a drug-dealing, sex crazed student at Camden College who owes a lot of money to a coke-crazed local (Clifton Collins Jr.). Sean's been receiving anonymous notes from a secret admirer who he suspects is Lauren Hynde (Shannyn Sossamon), a skateboarding girl who is still very innocent and has not given into the debauchery around her. Not to be confused with "Rules of Engagement" (2000 war drama with Samuel L. Jackson) or "Laws of Attraction" (2004 rom-com with Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore) this 2002 film is kind of a teen movie for grown ups, directed by Roger Avary, the guy who wrote one of the stories for Pulp Fiction. The only "rules" in Roger Avary's latest are in the second word of the titles. Otherwise, the man who made "Killing Zoe" and who came up with the "gold watch story" in "Pulp Fiction" has thrown the guidebook into the nearest bin and set fire to it.
